Adnams 10k – I may be mad...

I have just signed up for the Adnams 10k in Southwold on November 17. This despite the fact that I can still barely do 5k and I started running in January. It was the Stroke Association Resolution Run that got me into this and the Stradbroke Sprint Tri that kept me going at the end of C25k, so I think I really need another target.

When you sign up (which is a jolly exciting process with a queuing system) they ask your estimated time. I have no idea whatsoever! Three hours? :) I put 1h 20m on the basis that I might average 7m 30sec per km (I can do that for 4km at the moment). I'm a 63-year-old woman who had never run before this year, so I'm not going to beat any records.

It's only £20 and the money goes to a good cause, so if it all looks hopeless I can write it off. But hopefully it will be the motivation I need to actually get me running longer than 30 minutes.

Now I'm going to go and lie down with a cold towel on my head...

You'll be fine, plenty of time. I visited Southwold for the first time recently, lovely place. There's a nice fish and chip shop in the harbour... Mrs T's Fish and Chip shop (no relation)

That's brilliant! Well done for giving yourself a new goal. I think that's what helps keep us motivated. I'm not far from Southwold myself, November temperatures are more in line with what I like for running so I might give that a go too, thanks!

Well done you, everyone needs targets. I strongly recommend you pick up on Ju-Ju's Magic Plan for getting you to running first for an hour, then to 10k. Here's the link …. healthunlocked.com/bridgeto...

Equally, I suggest you start parkrunning, if you don't do it already. You don't need to run the whole 5k to begin with, but as you can already do 4k in 30 mins I wouldn't be at all surprised if you did run it all at the first attempt, in well under 40 mins.

Best of luck :-)

You’ll run it... more than enough time to be ready. Are Adnams giving product away? If so I’m there 🤣

1:20 seems reasonable for November for you... but don’t worry, they’ll be happy if you run 1:21 🤣. Relax and enjoy the journey to it and then celebrate with the event itself.
