I've done C25K, Bridge to 10k, successfully been running 5k @26 mins, 10k @54/55 minutes. Today I could barely scrape together 4k, it felt like my legs had been taken off and put back on wrong!
I sometimes (often) find the first 1k hard, but then get into my rhythm and I am away, but it didn't happen today I was literally counting down....
I slept well, I had no wine, had an early standard breakfast (small banana and half a piece of toast), why would it feel SO HARD?

I'd always check hydration levels. If you're not drinking 2-3 litres of water daily you are likely to experience 'heavy legs' in this warmer weather, let alone hot. In hot weather it's unlikely you'd last a few minutes before dehydration would hit and stop you.
Water before the run will end up sloshing in your stomach rather than being absorbed where needed. It's often just comfort for dry lips. You'd need to top up well a day before and some of us need more, some less. I endured the half marathon without a sip but all my tanks were full well on time. It's good to experiment to find out what/how much you need in all sorts of weather. Legs are good warning sign. Dizziness and headaches are the end product of dehydration.
I don’t have much fluid before to prevent needing to go for a wee mostly! I will stay focussed on general hydration before my next run in two days. No dizziness or headache at least. Possibly just “one of those days”.
Oh I know that feeling so well. I did a one mile charity swim challenge on Sunday. I’d practiced and practiced knew I could swim in a wetsuit for a mile. On the day I couldn’t get my legs to work they wouldn’t do front crawl or breast stroke. I tried and tried!
Eventually I used breast stroke arms and this odd walking movement with my legs...I wasn’t last but certainly in the last dozen. I just felt all that practice deserted me on the day. Very frustrating!
Onward to the next challenge. You’d think at 62 I’d decide I’d done enough and could relax in the relative quiet of fun exercise. But the Marathon beckons 😱😱😬🤣🥰
