I'm happy, I'm very happy π 10k today! So I've done that distance 3 times now. I feel like I've done everything I can to prepare for this race, pushed myself AND luckily avoided injury. I have a few niggles that have been worrying me, but it's all good.
Now it's about relaxing, looking after myself, making sure I have no aches or pains on race day. I'm not going to get any fitter, so it's lots of.... π§ββοΈπππββοΈ I have never had a professional massage before... Might get one this week.
I tried running with a water bottle for the first time today. I have to say it's heavy! I won't take it out full next time, it did help halfway through the run though. I've discovered that I can't suck a bottle when I'm running πI have to squirt the water into my mouth, I'm too exhausted to suck, I need the air.
A few pictures of my run.. Nice and cool today. Hope it's like this next Sunday! Happy running everyone! x
Thanks Jojo! It is like weight training. I actually started squirting some out on one of the big hills π Every little helps. I bought it for HM training, just need to get used to it now, I need to practise eating sweets as well. π
"I'm too exhausted to suck" ππ Love it! I know what you mean though, eating, drinking, breathing and running all at the same time takes practice π I nearly choked on a bar today and spent a few seconds trying to decide whether to stop, cough or drink some water. But there was a good piece of music in my ear so I just carried on π
The massage will work wonders, enjoy and good luck for the race.
Thanks IP. I was actually really pleased with my 'bottle out, bottle back in' technique. I've been practising in the garden π. I didn't expect the actual sucking to be the hard part. π I'm still learning! Nearly choked you say? π€ I'll try this in the garden as well.
Sounds like a great run clubberlang - well done! It looks like a lovely route too. Yep, at this stage, all the hard work is done - eat, sleep and hydrate well and good luck next weekend!π
Thanks Sandra! That's actually just the end of the route, the majority is on the roads. I'm looking forward to getting out in the countryside after this race.
Lovely photos! Yeah, I don't really like carrying water, I only take about a quarter of a litre but I know I'll need to on the longer runs, when I eventually get to them! I'm going to eat some jellybabies this week out of solidarity. Have a good week!
Lovely pics - very relaxing countryside (if youβre not trying to run 10k up those hills!). My advice about the sports massage is donβt plan anything for just after it. That deep massage really gets to those muscles, and my Running Daughterβs reaction is usually 12 hours of sleep! π€£
Have a good week and then a good 10k run. ππ
This is a great update, well done you on hitting 10k and three times too. I am so envious as 5K is aplenty for my little legs and Iβm not planning to move on from that.
Lesson learned on the water bottle, great stuff π
I think 5k is aplenty for everyone's legs, we all love Parkrun. But my favourite run is with Michael, i've been repeating C25K W4... I love it! I prefer interval training. I think that's why I enjoyed C25K so much.
It's the one in the picture Angie, It's a large bottle that's attached to a running belt. It's comfortable, but I didn't think I'd be able to notice the weight as much as I did, especially going up hill.
You doing soo well, I am so impressed you now do 10 k, its brilliant, I cant imagine running 10, 5 is only just achieveable for me π’ππ. Enjoy your massage and relax up to your race, practise your slurping technique as dont want to hear about you choking half way, cant wait to hear about your race π
Good for you clubberlang, massive well done on your 10k! What lovely photos - it helps when the scenery is nice doesnβt it? π
Youβre definitely ready for your race and we absolutely canβt wait to read your race report - remember itβs the Actual Law to post a photo of your bling! π π π
Btw, I agree about carrying a water bottle. I took one on the Race for Life 10k a few weeks ago, and it felt like I was carrying a brick - plus, like you, it was a huge effort to get any good suckage! Hydration vest all the way for me now. π
You have achieved really good times over the past few months and have had a really good attitude to your goals and your training. That must be really inspirational to those reading your posts, so well done you! Iβm really pleased for you.
Now go and have the weekend that you have been building up to for weeks. You really deserve a fabulous time and I hope it all goes as well or even better than you want it to.
Watch out London! Clubberlang is coming! Heβs coming running! Then heβs celebrating his birthday too. Itβs party time!
We started our C25K trek about the same time and similar weight. That is all the similarity. You were determined to press on to 10K and most likely beyond, as soon and as carefully as possible. Losing weight in the process.
I, being a few? years older than you, am happy to now just run, slowly, three times a week, doing about 4K each time in about 38 minutes. My fitness is generally improving, I sleep better, feel better and have lost, and am still slowly losing inches round my waist, and I am happy with that goal. Different strokes for different folks. You go and get a good time Champ! I want you to do really well in your race. I will be rooting for you. Go and show them how well the March intake can do. Then many happy returns!
Nice to hear you from Hatman! Thank you for your kind words. I'm very happy to hear that you're still out there running and benefiting so much from it. You're an inspiration my friend, a real success story. That March group was a great group... It would be an honour to run for you all. π
