Robin Hood Marathon - update

After agreeing to do a half marathon for the first time under the influence of alcohol, I never thought this day would come! Instead of being excited I was really quite nervous that I wouldn't be able to do it. A very restless nights sleep wasn't a good start to the day, but after a pre race smoothie I made my way to the race. Training had been hit and miss, and I new I'd just have to do the best I could to get round. In a nutshell, I surprised myself, with the support and momentum you do get carried around, I managed to run the first 8.5 miles without stopping which I've never done, and when I did stop it was only for a brisk walk to rest my foot a bit, as I'd developed a large blister which was giving me a bit of grief before I carried on again. I managed a time of 2.21 which I would never have thought I'd ever do considering I'm not a natural or graceful runner and gave myself 3 hours to get round.

I have to say the post race meal of ultimate burger and San Miguel in Wetherspoons was absolute heaven! The downside, it looks as though I'll be doing it again next year!!

Happy Running

Fantastic achievement mickh! I looked at your last post last night and wondered how you got on! So, next year as well huh? Well, it gives you a bit of time to practice doesn’t it?! Well done you!

Well done ! If I could do that sort of time with hit and miss training I would be over the moon ! Looks like next year you have a time to beat

Look after that blister !

That's the worry, I now have a time to beat, o dear! The winning time was 1.13, at least I'll not be getting anywhere near that!!!

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't glad to cross the line, it was a challenge but I've now got another year to prepare!

Ps, I don't know how people run a full marathon😁

I thought the same when I’d completed my HM distance run. No way José could I have run another km, let alone the same again. 😩
