Yes I noticed that post, 19 ran sub 35 minutes and there were a few who ran sub 30 minutes, I think the quickest was around 27 minutes, hope for me as I am at age 73 will be running my first parkrun this Saturday morning.
Be assured, I will send a report on Saturday morning after I complete my first parkrun, I think they send you a email, if not I'll wait until I see the official time on the Parkrun Website.
I will not be taking my Smartphone with me as I did 9 days ago with Mapmyrun or that metromone beats for a practice run, I will have a glance at my normal wristwatch at the start and just before the finish line. 😊 🏃
yes,you get an email and a text. my pr has up to 550 runners and result comes between 12-1pm.sometimes a bit earlier.the email also has age grading and gender position details.
Thanks for that information 'runwithdog', I assume by your username you run parkruns with your dog, I have a cat, not heard of any cats running with their owner at parkruns, lol.
Well done to you Skeg on completing weeks 1 to 4 and run 1 of week 5, you are now around half way through the program, onwards and upwards to run 2 of week 5. 🏃 😊 Yes you are the same age as me.
Well done Skeg. One step or should I say one run at a time. I have never jogged either. At 30 I hadn't seen myself as a runner unless I was running to catch a bus or one of my children when they were little. I am 71, broke my ankle last year and am on my second time around of couch to 5k as I completed the runs and then hurt my foot again. It was badly bruised and swollen for over a week so decided to start from the beginning again. Just completed week 7 and starting week 8 today. Next is Bridge to 10K . Keep going, there is hope for us yet and keep smiling.
Sorry for delay in replying - life🙂 Hope the foot continues to heal. Puts my recent heel injection into perspective. I like your ambition to do Bridge to 10K. Good luck
Good for you HeavyFoot, in Scotland and N. Ireland the parkrun start is 9.30am.
Thank you for thinking of me for my first parkrun, I will post a report on how it went once I get my official result. 😊 🏃 I am not taking my Smartphone with me on Saturday morning, so no Mapmyrun or metromone for pace, I'll just follow the person in front of me. 😊
Fantastic read! As everyone says, hope I’m still dong this in 20 years time, and hopefully not too slowly either. Glad to see the octogenarians can beat me by a good few minutes just yet!
Oh, thanks for this. 👍 Gives me something to aim for. That would be such a fun thing to do, and I don’t have to wait as long as the rest of you! 😊 I may have to try group running after all....
Wow! Thanks for posting that Dexy. Aren’t they just amazing? Just in awe, going to have to try and push for a PB at parkrun on Saturday now most of them are faster than me 😂
An inspiration Lexi, I wonder if we’ll still be chatting on here when we get to their age. Ooh is this a trip to your kiwi parkrun before you head for UK tourism? Have fun and let us know how it goes.
Sorry for late reply Dexy, not getting any notifications on here at the moment just the “like” very frustrating, just a fluke that I re-visited your post. I hope we’re still on here at 80. I tailwalked at our parkrun last Saturday which was their 6th anniversary with barbecue put on, freezing cold and wet and by the time I got back only a handful of volunteers were still there to grab my high viz and give me my token. Everyone else had gone, including the bbq! Was feeling very underwhelmed to be honest, but saw police had closed off the road and on getting home I heard on the news that a man had been found dead in the stream, very sad for him and his family.
I’d like to do a couple more PR’s before we leave hopefully. (24 more sleeps until we leave!) 🇬🇧 🏃♀️🏃♀️🥝
Another 73 year old here. I'm on the injury couch with a knee problem at the moment, but only temporarily. I was parkrunning for a couple of months before this injury struck, but am keeping my hand in by volunteering at parkrun (I was a tail walker last Saturday) or by just walking the 5k instead of running. There's no embarrassment to doing that at parkrun I'll soon be back running again and trying for a new pb.
My last competitive run before c25k course was 59 or 60 years ago at school.
Started c25k last year aged 75 and completed it in Nov, doing 4 - 5 ks regular, but eased off number of runs per week. Nursing an achilles prob due to pushing pace too hard.
Now happy just to go out and do any run without a target of speed or distance.
