Thought 8am would be fine to run today but oh no it wasnβt!! Baking hot and thought of giving up at 5k. Instead took a minute break to dowse my head in water and then give it a 2nd push. I had to walk another 5k to get back to my car anyway!
I really had to push myself as was sooooo hot and probably should have stopped. But I promised myself a week of shorter runs if I did this 10K - so kind to myself! π
Anyway survived and got a PB! ππΌππΌππΌ
This heat is just too much. I was purple last night when I got back home! I see ambulances go past (we live near an ambulance station) and keep laughing to myself...they must see me and wonder if they will.be picking me up off the floor later π
Completely agree! Iβve been taking 3 days rest between 10kβs as my body really needs the rest. I had to dodge dogs and pensioners on the beach dawdling around. Jealous really. π
Your determination to achieve is amazing - but be careful that it doesnβt push you too far - you donβt want to collapse from heat stroke ...(thatβs not very medical but iβm sure you know what i mean!) Well done for your all-round awesomeness though!
Thanks Pippa and you are very right about heatstroke. I was very conscious of it today and kept pouring water on my head. But tbh I should have stopped before 10 and been sensible. I should take my own advice and always run by 6! π¬
Lovely photos again. It's really cloudy here - not sure how warm it is as I haven't been outside yet. Just going to hang the washing out so I'll report back π
Not feeling well unfortunately. Dodgy stomach so I thought it best not to go to the 10k club run this morning π Feeling a bit better now so might go out for a short one before work x
Iβm losing my Garmin watch tan as itβs off for replacement - due any day now. Itβs going to be so ashamed of my meagre steps. I wonder if it will count when I crawl upstairs on 1 foot, 1 knee or come down on my bottom??
Sorry meant to say well done on PB and stop be silly and running when itβs too hot!!! π‘ thatβs my stern motherly look
Yeah Iβm doing ok. Iβve been glugging healthy homemade smoothies, eating well, taking arnica pillules and rubbing arnica gel into ankle. I have the chimney sweep coming today, my step daughter tomorrow for 4 days to visit her brothers, the boiler man coming on Saturday ....Yay!! Saturday is bathnight!!!! My rubber ducks have never been so excited!!! And then that will be 2 weeks of my sentence over. Then 2 weeks more and I can take the boot off and drop the crutches. That will make it easier as Iβll be able to take little gentle strolls .... I so miss getting out and about. And besides it will be blackberry season soon and elderberries and I need to make some elderberry port and cordial
Wow busy busy!! Youβll probably be lucky in that the weather will hopefully be cooler very soon. π€ Donβt exhaust yourself too much before you boot cones off.
No I keep getting told that! My daughter came down last weekend to help me and I just kept getting frustrated as she wasnβt doing things how I do them. I was trying to relax in the sun lounger as she hung washing out. But I ended up getting up and taking over, dragging a plastic chair along to kneel my bad leg on as I pegged. She puts the pegs in the wrong places and I canβt stand it , my OCD makes me uncomfortable looking at it. I have a system where the big stuff goes at one end and the small at the other and the pegs have to match on each item and they must be pegged the same way. Daft I know but I felt so much more comfortable once I had redone it.
Iβm the same with how my mugs and glasses go in the cupboard, handles the same way , same colour behind each other ... Sad I know . βΉοΈ
Have to say that sounds very similar to me LL. I tend to do all that sort of stuff around the house. e.g. every morning when I go into the kitchen I rotate the kettle so the handle is aligned with the wall... as Mrs Hoagy simply doesnβt understand the importance of such things π
Well done ripcurl. I admire your persistence, not to mention your stamina. We thought it was cooler today but the sun has come out again and Iβm sweating buckets just being indoors. Enjoy your week of shorter runs . ππββοΈ
Well done! Iβm just watching on from the sidelines in awe still! πππβ€οΈ
Try not to push things too far in this heat, though. That 1 min rest sounded very sensible. π¦π¦π Iβm sure you really deserve a week of shorter runs now! πβ€οΈ
Awww thank you mountaindreamer ! I should have stopped at the 5k and next time I will. I fact I wonβt run further than 5 at that time of day and heat!! Xxx
Absolutely brilliant Alka - completely smashed it ππ»ββοΈπππ
And 1:05 in this heat, with a minuteβs break - youβre going to smash the one hour mark in the near future π±π
So thatβs you disappearing into the distance ahead of me as expected... oh well, the competition was good while it lastedπ Iβll now have to knock out a HM on Saturday to keep aheadπ (only joking ju-ju, donβt worry!)
BTW... from your comments, your heart rate must be a lot higher than mine. Being an old git I keep mine well in check (just in case!), so although Iβm tired when I stop after a run, Iβm not usually conscious of my heart beating fast at all. You youngsters, eh?
And re that all-important βwatchband tan-lineβ... I swap my watch to the other hand, to even it out. Still get a whitish line on each wrist, but not as vivid/noticeable. Just a thought...
Thank you running buddy! Today was the first time I pushed my 7km happy pace. Itβs become comfortable and wanted to see if I could sustain a faster pace. I did but it was hard! I think it was the heat that made it tougher!
Still 13 years younger than me, so I can definitely refer to you as a youngster π
And yeah Iβm fascinated how the βHappy paceβ changes as you get fitter - mineβs about 7:15 now, but there was a brief moment towards the end of this weekβs 10k where I seemed to find another quite different happy pace. Was pushing it at prob about 6:30, and I was βin the zoneβ and suddenly realised I was feeling like that pace was sustainable βforeverβ (my definition of happy pace). After a few more minutes I hit an uphill stretch and that was the end of that... but it was an interesting (and new) experience.
Iβve not tried apart from the 5k to push it. Now I know I can run a bit faster. Will be able to test it better when itβs cooler! Oh and what a few years between friends hey? π
Not really - vary the length of your shorts? My tan issues are mainly golf-related, where the daftest looking thing comes from the v-neck of the golf shirts! Plus my left hand is always a lighter tan than my right hand, due to wearing a golf glove.
My run this morning had a altitude increase of 152m!! There really isn't a long run, or even a 5k without hills! That's the way it is, but I am aware of how the same distance can be so much harder depending on the increase in altitude. Ah well! I shall have to be good and patient and slow!
