HELLO!!!!

It is ME... again.... and it is the second week of the QUEST!!!!

How is it going.... ?

Well, I do have an idea , because the posts on here are full of the awesome adventures you are all having!

The weather is improving and somewhat challenging but the sunshine and warmth really is welcome :)

I have been back out running, ( I use the term, very loosely ), it is SLOW! But it is GREAT!!!!

I managed my longest run, yesterday, since getting the cautionary all clear, from my Physio a couple of weeks ago...I ran a whole 5K..it took me 36 minutes...but I ran it!!!

I am just gong to build on that!

But enough about me... ! How are you all getting on with your goals ???

What is the Quest?

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.

I ask that you are a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:

★ To run three times a week

★ To slowly increase distance

★ To train for a specific race

★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine

This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like:

I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I want to ..............

At the end of the Quest, there will be a certificate for you to download and keep!!

Please, do make sure you take care during the warmer weather....things are really hotting up!

Wishing you a wonderful week of safe and happy running! 💥

Hi Floss, glad to hear that you are back running, 36 minutes is great for a 5K, if I run that this Saturday at my first parkrun I will be very pleased with myself. 😊

Yoops!

Yes..back out there and aiming to run three times this week! I may manage a short one tomorrow before small runner in training arrives:)

You are going to really enjoy that park run and you will do just fine:)

Thanks Floss, I have just returned from a visit to Loch Lomond, last year I ran run 3 of week 4 in the country park next to the famous loch, I have posted elsewhere here a photograph of Loch and Ben Lomond.

Yes you did comment on last week's photo of the reservoir I ran round last year when it was run 3 of week 7, yes I have ran in some beautiful places.

Blimey yes id be over the moon with a 36 min 5k. But anyway I am trying to increase my distance. I know il never be speedy but I have stamina so I’m aiming to build up to at least 10-15k once a week and 2 5ks and also incorporate some strength and flexibility when I’m on my rest days ( I tend to let that slip if I’m not careful). So I’ve gone back to my little running diary to keep me on the path.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to limberlou

Keeping on track is the thing isn't it... I end up missing bits out and then playing catch up.. Slow and steady is the name of the game for me from now on:)

Your goals sound just fine... and your diary will look at you accusingly if you neglect it!

Hi had a good week managed to get out twice in a week had a good run both x 5 and 4k, had a few twinges in my back so treated myself to a hot stone massage and that seemed to have done the trick, well done on your run oldfloss 36min is a good time.

Ha, hello Quentin! Brilliant painting Floss👌 keeping his beedy eye on us😁

I'm very happy for you, for running your 5k distance yesterday, as you make your way off the IC again and I agree 36 mins is terrific!

I have thrown myself back into things this week and been quite active...

I did a pilates session at home, have been out running twice, a 3k and a 5k run with 2 sets of planks done straight after while I am still warm and dressed for it. 💪

I have been out walking twice with Mr BBr too. An 8k walk near Bushy Park and an epic 24k walk along the North Downs Way catching the train back to the car.👫🚂😎

Hoping to keep things up this week, and I'm adding in 2 sets of arm press/lifts to my after run routine as my 'One thing' on the S&F forum.

Good luck with your Quests everyone!😊xx

Quentin looked as if he wanted to join the fun, and he can look very authoritative when he wants to,

I shall be pleased to get three runs in this week.. and I was relieved at getting the 5K done... phew !

Happy running and exercising! my friend xxx

I am joining! My goal is to run 3x a week. I wanted to run every other day, but since it's been hot lately (90 Wednesday!) I am going to the Y to run, and they change directions every other day. This means I will be leaning in to one side running around their track and will need to lose a day in order to run leaning in the other side some times (e.g., every other week....)

and OF, 36 min! Wow! Don't I wish! But I am older than you.... : )

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to LiisaM

Are you???? I am feeling less old since I tucked the 5K away! It was at my happy pace...:)

Your goals sound really good and they made me smile... I have this image of you leaning one way, then the other!

Hi Floss

No attempts at my targets this week, but shook off the holiday with a solo 5k round the block in 25’31” on Thursday, followed by a pleasing 24’39” parkrun on Saturday.

A gentle 9k with Dexy this morning leaves me pondering which target to go for on Wednesday. Decisions, decisions 🤔 - onwards and upwards!

Edit to add well done you - the snail 🐌 is back where she belongs 👍

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to UpTheStanley

Thanks you..!

Your runs sound just fine... and a cracking pace too... 9K...just perfect with the lovely Dexy.... why don't you go for a long, slow and steady one, to round the runs up, on Wednesday?

It is great to have the luxury of choosing though :)

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to Oldfloss

The trouble is he can’t do slow, steady and long without me to slow him down Floss, and I’ll be doing JogRunSprint 😂😂

Maybe I’ should accompany him on my bike and keep him slow 🚲 🏃‍♂️

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to Dexy5

Sounds like a great plan...Like Jack Sprat and his wife...

Up the Stan, could not run slow

His wife could not keep pace..

And so between the two of them,

They always won the race?

A knowing poet ….tee hee .… you're both right though. If Monday's run had gone a bit further I might have extended to 18k, but then again as I was only expecting to do 4 or 5 (you never can tell with Dexy5 s) I wasn't logistically (compression socks / fuel) or psychologically (brain) prepared for 18 :-( .

At some point this month she's planning to do 13k and I'll springboard off that to 18 - as long as I know when it's going to happen :-) .

So it's treadmill or race-pace 13k tomorrow ….. to be reported on next week's thread …. ooh the excitement and tension :-) .

I'd like to get to 5k first and then see how it goes, I ran 4k in my third consolidation in 30 mins at home. But here on holiday on the treadmill my duration is longer slow running, but distance is much less also having pacing problems. Any advice appreciated, I'm only in the gym as the temperature is in the high 30Cs

Well done you... my thoughts, whilst you are away on holiday...just run to keep everything ticking over... short and sweet and cool:)

Yes to running 3 times a week , and keeping on with the magic. My phone ran out of power this morning but fit bit said 50 minutes. Should I try and do the 50 again on Friday ?

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to Myzinnyboy

Lovely..long. slow relaxed runs..I would have a shorter one Friday....then a longer again next week..recovery time for the legs! X

Hello Oldfloss, glad to hear you are running again. I’m hoping to do a parkrun, a short intervals and a long run yesterday. As UTS said, I went out yesterday not knowing how things would develop but I decided to run within 140 bpm HR, as my HR was pretty high during the parkrun (having gone out too fast). Ended up running 9k in 1:19, which is slow for me but enjoyable. Not so enjoyable for UTS who walked behind me some of the time.

🏃‍♀️🚶‍♂️

OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to Dexy5

It is all sounding so positive and rubbing off on me also! Reading your posts keeps me buoyant!

Enjoyable always works for me... well done you...both! xx

I’m a bit tired this week as i ran 9km on Sunday. It was a training trail run In the forest. I broke it into 3km * 3 with a short rest break In between and I enjoyed it. So this week, I’ll do an 8km and a couple of 5kms. I have a Sore bum today after Pilates. I need to get some shoulder stretching in as they live beside my ears. Particularly on runs 😖

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to

I felt that.. your description of the shoulders living by your ears...... relaxing them is key to so many things..:) I have not had that feeling since before I retired!

Keep it steady..you have been working hard...so maybe the odd really short run too.. 3 K even... then head out again for the longer runs... Your trail run sounds wonderful! Sore bum...not as wonderful!

in reply to Oldfloss

Meant to say that I’m delighted you got out for a 5km. Still feeling good ? Did you run a short one today ? 😘
