Hope you all had a great first week on the September Quest. If you missed the start of this one, feel free to join, it’s never too late!
What is the Quest?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.
We ask that you are a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and we wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:
★ To run three times a week
★ To slowly increase distance
★ To train for a specific race
★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine
The Quest is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you!
Happy running and/or cross-training!!!

I'm happy to report a successful start to the month, and I'm feeling much more positive about my first ever 10k event in three weeks time.
Last week I carried on playing around with the Galloway method and had three enjoyable runs. A 5k, a 4k by the canal and lovely 5k run on Sunday evening in Bushy Park.
Earlier in the week we drove to Windsor and walked my 10k race route. This has boosted my confidence, it does have a couple of hills but its on wide tarmac paths through gorgeous parkland and there are plenty of downhill bits too. I checked out last years results, about 1300 women run, and plenty finish in the sort of time I'm expecting.. Jo Pavey starts us off!😊
Another walk of almost 8k made sure I kept moving. 😮I kept thinking of doing some Pilates, but didn't actually do it...
Sticking to dry September and feeling the benefits already😆
So, goals for this week are..to run three times (hoping to have a trial 10k run on Windsor route) to keep moving AND to do some Strength work including that Pilates session...💪
Bluebird, you are doing fantabulously. What a good idea to walk your 10km route. I’m dying to hear more about the Galloway method. Good plans too before your event. I love to look at last years results too. Good luck
Oh, thank you Paula, that's kind of you.😊 I was worrying about completing my race, then noticied a post on here where someone had managed a 10 mile run comfortably using the Jeff Galloway method... there was a bit of discussion on the post about the optimum length of intervals, and I've tried 30/30 and 60/60 with some super results. Floss posted this great link the other day for someone else describing the method..
I'm going to practise this on my race route , but have no doubt now that I will finish and that my time will be better than me just running and taking rests when exhausted. I've proved this already over 10k and 5k.
I think because I've not had injuries, I've never had to go back to run/walk intervals like many folk do. My running speed is quicker using this method and its fun to do!
I may try and build up to 10 miles too...
Thank you for asking and for your good wishes.😊
How are you doing at the moment? I hope you are well. 😊xxx
Oh thanks for that link. I’m on hols in France so I’ll have time to read it. I’m in a campsite with a spa and I’ve booked a sports massage. I’m not taking my running seriously so I’ll get injured if I’m not careful 😱
Oh dear, I don't know what to make about my running journey it is inconsistent at best, one day I can do long (for me) run like 6k and another I can't barely do 2.5k....I am starting to think I am not cut out for this? Anyway I am doing this juju's magic plan... I am stuck with week one... 😅...
Yes, the shorter ones are at higher pace, but when I do longer distances I seem to take a long time to recover, like 4 days. which I don't know why because I do walking too... Maybe it is something my body need to get used to it or I am seriously unfit... 🙄 This juju's plan is all about doing 3 times a week, and I can do just 2 because of me recovering the long distance one...
You could try dropping the speed down on the shorter one for a while... that may help the long one, especially if it’s the next run. Keeping the pace lower, and therefore the heart rate, should improve your aerobic fitness faster.
Thank you. I will try that and see how I get on... I have just done 30 minutes, 4k, after a week of not running as I have been sick, I am going to be gentle this week. ♥️
A quest with a lovely photo. Thank you Unfit. I’ve been faffing around doing one long run and one short run per week. Now I’m getting serious 😖 I am trying to up my distance by 0.5km per week for a possible 10 miler at Xmas. I need to look after a niggly knee too following a 10km on the beach this morning. Have a good week questers.
10k on a beach can feel like 10 miles... well done, I hope that knee settles now. 0.5km onto the long run is a very sensible way to that 16k and a bit! Have a great week.
A good week finished off with the New Forest 10k on Sunday (having walked the course on Friday with Dexy5 to get a feel for it). Full report on a separate thread, but bottom line was 51'44" (had a faster time 35 years ago, so no PB ) for what my Garmin thinks was 10.25k at a 5'03"/k average pace. A slightly misjudged final effort, as having gone sub-5 for Ks 7, 8 and 9 I couldn't maintain that to the finish. But very happy overall . Gentle recovery run tomorrow before Parkrun on Saturday, with a long slow HM planned for Wednesday week.
Oh my god! 51’44” is amazing! Assuming you were somewhere near that 35 year old PB, I’d guess you may have demolished it in terms of age grading. Must come down and do that one one year as it was one of my old stomping grounds, not that I stomped when there were fawns around. Great job UTS.
Hello UnfitNoMore, taking things easy this week after our lovely 10k in the New Forest. My main dilemma is which shirt to wear at parkrun on Saturday; the New Forest bright green or my newly arrived red 50 runs shirt. The New Forest has it I think, just in case other runners have got theirs on and we can compare notes.
Well done on that NF 10k, I’d be sleeping in that shirt I think... but it would also be my choice for the next parkrun for sure. Congrats on the 50 shirt too... you could pop that on in cooldown I guess.
I’m out for 8.25 miles tomorrow, 10 in 3 weeks or so for me.
Bit late to the party this week, but in fact I’m settling back into running quite pleasingly after the week on hols in France - yum, yum bread & figs from the tree in the garden 👏🏼😄! My aim for September is morphing a bit. Longer term, it’s still to extend to more distance now that I feel comfortable with an hour’s running. But Dexy5 and UpTheStanley were so inspiring about the NF 10k fun that I’m seeing possibilities for next year. 🤣🤣 If this Tortoise isn’t gong to be on such a course for 4 hours, an increase in pace is indicated. So along with upping one run per week by about 500m, I’m looking at this Jeffing business. Going to try it on this week’s shorter runs....
It’s never too late to arrive at the party. Sounds like you have a plan for 6-12 months, and you’re following some very inspirational and knowledgeable runners example there too. Enjoy those short ones, and of course your lovely long run this week.
