Hey Asthmatics!

Has anyone else been really struggling with this hot weather and humidity? Breathing was a priority so have not run for a week! Decided to brave it today as much cooler but not expecting to go very far due to breathlessness. Why oh why does it keep surprising me how much better I feel after a run 😊 Getting a bit behind on Magic Plan as those increased distances are tough!

yeah, I have seasonal asthma - it right sucks !! My doctor informed me that breathing is not an optional extra, so I have been on treadmill since pollen season started (and it's dragging it's backside this year too...).

my tips (may or may not work for you :) )

- firstly TAKE YOUR INHALER when you go running - sounds basic but I still forget mine sometimes when I go to work. If you have a spare put it in your running belt, jacket or whatever and leave it there if possible.

- run really early or really late to avoid the humidity as much as possible

- give a really good cough before you start to get the old air out and check that you can breathe in all the way (kwim?). If you can't then have another cough, if you still can't then run in the knowledge that your breathing is going to suck, so slow slow slow then slow down a bit :) Coughing helps me a lot, even if I have to fake it.

If you have any other tips, I would be grateful to hear them :D

Yes I do carry inhalers everywhere with me. Good idea to do early and late runs.

Regards the coughing I do try to clear my chest before a run. My daughter is a physio and has shown me how to huff (as if misting a mirror) as coughing can irritate the lungs. Give it a try!

Have you got a turbohaler?

No just a preventer and reliever ordinary inhaler. Is the turbo more effective?

Yes - I’d definitely recommend it.
