Oye Como Va - Or in English Hey how’s it going?

Its just been an incredible week of beautiful, winter weather here, light breezes and sunshine. After struggling for weeks, I’m back in love. Mummycav posted a couple of weeks ago about how she was feeling about her running and I could have written that, not so eloquently or with such humour, but what she expressed was just what I was experiencing.

Ran past our local war memorial on the start of my run today and saw a young woman hanging something on the Olive tree, but it was too soon to stop and have a squiz, so ran on. On my way back I gave myself permission to take a couple of photos and saw that she had tied hand knitted poppies to the tree. They are so beautiful. Wish I could knit, would love some of those poppies to take to France. We are heading to France in August to visit the grave of OH’s uncle who was killed in 1918 and my great uncle (Irish, who emigrated to Canada and lived where Saskalliecat hails from) killed at Dieppe in 1942. We * (see below) volunteered to make and place harakeke (flax) crosses and photograph the graves (for family who will never get over there) for the Dolores Cross Project, whose aim is for every New Zealand serviceman killed and buried overseas to have a cross. * I’m using the Royal “we” here, being truthful I didn’t or couldn’t make even one, I’ll blame the arthritic fingers!

The rose is one of the last of my Windermere still smells divine and by the time we get back from our trip it maybe even starting to bud again. I love the acorns, it’s a little watercolour painted for me for my birthday by my stepdaughter’s eldest daughter, (my first grandchild) clever or what?

Being a parkrun tourist in the UK is going to be so exciting, but the possibility of meeting and running with VRB’s even more so.

I have gone on for way too long. Again. Oye como va, Mi ritimo, Bueono pa gozar, which apparently means Hey hows it going? My pace. Good to enjoy.

I enjoyed my cool down walk to this tune this afternoon, light on words but love that guitar. There might have been a little salsa in my steps too, because my Garmin said its was my fastest 5k.🐌🐌 Happy Running everyone. ❤️🏃‍♀️

PS Meant to say 80 crosses only

I'll see if I can get a few :-) If not, I'll find mine

I've just googled the saying... What's the meaning of the phrase 'Mighty oaks from little acorns grow'?

Great things may come from small beginnings.

This can be realated to running sooo much!!

I’d never thought of that, you’re so right! And it would be amazing to have a poppy. I have some sterling my lovely uncle gave me 4 years ago, which is about to become obsolete, can’t think of anything better to spend it on.

Hey Lexi, if you come to Oxford or Abingdon, pm me and we can meet up x

Our local shops teaches peeps to knit those poppies 😃

I’m off to Arnhem in Sept to visit my uncle’s grave there. He died in the battle for the bridge 😞. I visited year before last and it was a very moving experience

Speaking of poppies, the display on my allotment was breathtaking the other day. They’d appeared while I was away on hols 😃

Is that tune a Santana one ? 🎸 🙂

I think that is such a lovely idea teaching people how to knit those poppies. My late Mum tried to teach me to knit many years ago, but being left handed, I just couldn’t get it and we both gave up. Years later she taught my daughter, also left handed, using a mirror. Genius!

So sad, all those young men’s lives gone. I’m a right blubberer, teared up after drying out all our crosses and realising that each one represented a life gone. Oh here I go again. Lovely to know that your uncle and all those others will never be forgotten, by journeying to visit them. OH uncle’s widow and son emigrated to NZ after the war and tragically the son, who was a pilot, was killed in WW2.

On a happier note, bet your poppies were stunning and yes it is a Santana song, they were one of my faves as a teenager (nostalgic sigh just heard!)
