Just sitting here with 5 mins to spare and I thought I’d go through my first year since starting C25k. My c25k run graduation was at Hastings parkrun and manage to sneak inside 30mins and after a lot of consolidation runs had a go at a couple 10k races boy that was a step up. Then tried a 10mile race which was tough but strangely enjoyable along with mutleyshuffle in the worst conditions thinkable. Then pianoteacher mentioned the Hastings half and after some maybe maybe not thoughts I did it if, I thought the other runs were tough this was another level red hot and six miles uphill but made it round. The next brainwave was a triathlon even though I hadn’t been on a bike for 15 years and swim like a brick, so as with everything I did some training and have now completed two sprint triathlon’s and didn’t even come last. So now I’m back to My roots doing parkrun 5k’s and although my time have gradually improved over the year I can’t quite get near my target of sub 25mins with my best attempt being 25:33. All the thins I’ve achieved in my 54th year on this planet wouldn’t have been possible without the support of all you guys on these pages you know who you are and my long suffering family who have supported my mid life “thing”. Thank you all. 😊👍. PS. I must say the races have been good but it’s the lovely beautiful slow long just for the hell of it runs I’ve loved most. Happy running all. 😊

Wow! that's an amazing number of achievements to fit into a year. Bet you didn't see that lot coming twelve months ago! Hopefully sub 25 mins isn't far away (though with the heat and humidity, it may be at least a week or two yet ...). Obvious question ... what next?😃
Thanks Linda9389 hopefully I can chip away at the 25 as time goes on. As for what’s next, I applied for the London Marathon expecting to be unsuccessful but if I get in there is a tough winters training ahead🥴

Definitely not long, seriously mini length post for all you have packed in to your one year! Well done to you! Seriously brilliant! 🍾🥂🏅🏃🏻🤸🏻♂️🏃🏻🤸🏻♂️🏃🏻🤸🏻♂️👏🏻👍🌟 💥⚡️🎉😊🚴🏊🏃🏽I find it rather too easy to writes lots of words about much less! All the best with your quest to beat 25 minutes for a Parkrun. Keep off the ic if you possibly can and here's to an excellent year 2!
Amazing job! I love watching the Triathlon on TV and have a huge amount of respect for anyone who takes part in those. I am 55 this year and just starting on this running business!
Thanks angie31964 im nowhere near the tv guys not even the same galaxy, not so much iron man more like tin man 🤖. Same birthday for me too only it’s July, hope you get as much enjoyment out of running as I have this last year and keep us posted happy running 😀👍
Absolutely, and it really is good to read the stories of graduates. Speaking personally it makes me feel I can do it and to decide where I want to go with my newfound running ability
You can definitely do it just keep at it sometimes the PB’s come when you expect the least. but sometimes remember to forget distance and times and enjoy the surrounding and run just for the fun of it. All work and no play as they say 👍😊
Happy Runniversary Runsome! Awesome achievements to pack into one year, and still going strong! Bet that sub-25 PB is not far off! Can't get my emojis to work but imagine lots of strong-arm and smileys!
Thanks pianoteacher. It’s nice to say hi at parkrun. hopefully I’ll reach it one day but I feel it’s possibly a bit of a reach. As for your work in progress, I’ve no doubt it’s within you as you are such a great runner and do so many different types of run and volunteering you’ve been a real inspiration 👍😊
Aw thank you 😊 I don't think it's out of reach for you - it just starts to get harder and harder to shave those seconds off. The speedwork you do with your Tri club will really help too x
Yes I think your right the speed work should help but my legs are like lead afterwards and only just okay for PR Saturday. I know they should hopefully get better as time goes on, but my monthly total kilometres has drastically reduced from up in the hundreds down to around 45 k I guess that’s what happens when your only aiming at 5ks and there not much fun. Maybe I’ll start do do a few long ones just for fun 😀
What day do you do your speedwork on? I know when I've done Efforts on a Thursday there's no way I could go fast at parkrun. Hastings Runners do track on a Monday so it doesn't impact on weekend races x
It’s Wednesday’s so it’s fairly close to Parkrun, but it’s that or do it myself and I don’t thing I’m disciplined enough to push that hard alone. Early week does make sense 😊
