I am throwing the towel in getting an xray. I have been going with extendor tendonitis tried all the ice pack foot massage home remedies etc and even though things have improved significantly as the swelling has reduced I still have small niggling pain when putting pressure on my foot. I am Just wondering if anyone has had a stress fracture in the past and what did the do to get back out there 😧

Hi Z4,

Sounds good.

You need expert help.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Please beware of NHS patient papers that cover very extensively loads of injury management.

Eg.On here I got one on Achilles Tendinopathy from NHS OXford University.Comprehensive and just could not have made progress without it.Peace of mind in knowing what your up against.

I am not a medic, but complex area and you will need patience and proper guidance and advice.

Atb with your repair and recovery.

I had a foot injury that didn't heal for months. Rested it, didn't heal, so I got it x-rayed. No fracture, just the beginnings of arthritis in my toes so I started running again, very short distances, and foot strengthening exercises to help. Restarted c25k from a few weeks in. Got back to 5k Still had a painful niggle. GP sent me for an ultrasound. This showed an old injury in the ankle, but would need an MRI to analyse it. Of course this was weeks later, and it was starting to feel a bit better. GP told me to proceed with caution, so I had a gait analysis, bought some new running shoes and started b210k It still niggles, but I'm running longer distances, basically in my case I needed a really long recovery time, then I had to start running despite the pain, but only once I knew I wasn't aggravating an injury. It took about 6 months to get back to 5k again from when I injured it. I'm now round about 8k.

A friend of mine had a stress fracture that was only diagnosed when she went private after months of pain. Took ages to recover, she's just started running again.

It's a long frustrating process unless you can afford to get it seen privately. Waiting for gp appointments, seeing someone different each time, getting a different diagnosis each time. I believe that running is better for my health than not running. The new trainers have helped 😊 (sorry, that was a long one!)

Thanks grumpyoldgirl had xray and thats exactly what I have been told, early arthritis no fracture seen. Radiologist did say that they dont show sometimes on an xray only mri. So I have been advised to rest strap my teos and if no improvement head back to GP for a referal for an MRI scan. I am hoping it heals as I was really loving the running 😒

Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Once I knew there was arthritis there, I was even more desperate to keep running. Have you got exercises you can safely do to stay fit while your foot heals? I went back to Pilates class once I was safe to drive, I had to adapt some of the exercises but it kept me sane (ish!)

I had a stress fracture and at times I was in agony I had months off running. The answer for me was just physio πŸ™‚ I had to wait ages for an nhs physio but he was brilliant.

Go to the doc as you don’t know what you have til you get properly diagnosed πŸ™‚. Good luck πŸ‘

It's a long old recovery isn't it! One GP told me they'd refer me for physio if it didn't heal, but when I went back I saw a different GP who looked at me blankly when I mentioned physio, and sent me off for an ultrasound instead! I'm guessing they won't fork out for physio or MRI if they can avoid it. I'm now changing to a different GP surgery.

True! I had the Knock back at first I had to pay for ultrasound, then the GP had forgotten to do my referral to the physio so I was in agony waiting and waiting πŸ™‚
