Proper running shoes?

Hi! I completed couch to 5k in April and did my first park run. What a rewarding experience and I feel I have discovered running in a completely revelatory way. Hurrah! I ran 8k the other day and would like to gear up to 10K BUT I am getting very sorry outer ankles and from looking it up appears to be a tendon problem. Is this the bit where I go and get proper running shoes like a grown up? I’ve been running in Salomon walking trainers (lots of cushioning and stability) as my Nike ones make it much worse, but I may need to go and have gait tested etc. Anyone else experienced injuries and improved them through proper shoes? Or do I need to change my technique...

I have read a lot on here about people getting gait analysis and proper running shoes to suit and it has benefited them . So yes a new pair of trainers maybe the answer . Good luck 😊

You’ve done well to survive this long without getting gait analysis and running shoes Rjm220. It’s recommended to do this when going on to the longer runs of c25k.

Do go to a proper running shop , I use a local independent shop where all the staff are runners and are well trained. You can always ask around at parkrun to see who they recommend.

You’ll be a new runner once you’ve got this sorted.

Changing technique at random can lead to the IC ☹️. Changing shoes with the help of a good sports shop and gait analysis can lead to happiness 👍

Defo recommend the gait analysis and use of a local independent store. If you are happy to post your general location I'm sure you could get recommendations on here too :)
