The bad and the good of my longest run.

Hi everyone, I haven’t posted for a while but I read the forum everyday and you all continue to inspire and motivate me.

My plan today was for a long run (by my standards). For once no rain was forecast although I knew it would be quite breezy in places.

All started well but then about 2k in I took a tumble ... ouch! ... would I be able to get up ... more to the point had anyone seen me! Carefully stood up wondering which parts of my old body might fall off. There were grazes on my knee, shoulder, and both hands ... could I carry on? Walked a few steps, tried a gentle jog, everything seemed to be working so off I went again. I actually felt quite good and surprisingly things went well from then on.

For the first time I took a couple of mini snacks and some water with me so at 6k and 8k I had a sip and a munch. That all went well, didn’t choke or drop anything.

And then finally for the last kilometre I managed to speed up (again ... by my standards!).

So that was 11k ... my longest run!

Hope you all have a great weekend, happy running!

Hi Wizziewood, 👋

I'm glad you didn't hurt yourself too badly with that fall! As you were 2k in I expect your adrenaline was flowing...Well done for carrying on, and reaching 11k too!

I like the idea of snacks and water, but don't like carrying anything in my hands anymore, I will take a look at the options...😊xx

Thank you for your concern ... everything still in working order!

I wear a Flipbelt for my phone, key etc and this was the first time I’d carried the Flipbelt water bottle. I have the smallest size bottle which I had in a slot against my back and didn’t notice it was there.

Nice one! Well done. Taking a tumble as adults really shakes us so hopefully you haven't got any after-effects.

Thank you. A couple of bruises coming out this morning but otherwise everything seems to be working ok!

So you took a tumble & still managed 11k!?! Well done, great work steadily working from 5k upto a massive 6.5k on my long run, 1 day I’ll get up to that 11 ☺️

Thank you. Well done for your 6.5k, keep at it and you’ll get there. If I can do it you definitely can, believe me. Happy running!
