I woke up this morning still with this annoying man flu hanging around, feeling tired and a bit grumpy, but as it was my day off, I felt a run might be in order. I wondered about distance, 2.5k, 4K, 5k? In the end I decided on 10k, and chose the route I did for my second ever 10k, fairly flat but some hills. I felt given my tiredness it may be a bit ambitious, but I did it anyway. I felt quite tight in my legs, so spent longer than usual doing stretches to try and loosen them up, which worked by and large, though my lower left leg was still a bit tight, bottom of the calf muscles I presume.
The run itself was fairly uneventful, along the canal as far as Marple, run down the main road to the old railway line at Rose Hill station, down the Middlewood Way to Middlewood Station, back up to the canal, and home. Oh there’s a stinker of a hump-backedon the towpath, I always think I’m going to fall over myself on the way down!
I’ve been experimenting with fueling, so I took an energy gel at about 55 minutes in. Probably not necessary, but actually that was a minute or two before I hit the hill up to the canal and I think it helped, and my Strava stats show I sped up for the last little bit of the run, so I think it’s all good.
On the plus side, I can clearly still do 10k, only stopping to cross a road and take the gel, so maybe I’m improving? Just need to try to get this calf tightness fixed at my next appointment.
No pics today as I was too busy running
Have fun everyone, run safe

1 hour 6 minutes at 6.27 /km pace is really good for a easy paced 10K run Neil, the main thing is that you enjoyed your run.
Today I ran the first of the Stepping Stones Podcasts with Laura to celebrate my 73rd birthday, Oldfloss even sang happy 🎂 birthday to me, that's on another post. 😊
Thank you! I surprised myself actually, particularly since I was feeling a bit stiff still.
Well done on the podcasts, they are good aren’t they? Is that the one where dear Laura tries to put you off your stride by counting slightly out of time, and with annoying regularity? 😂
And of course happy birthday! I hope you have a wonderful day, and here’s to the next 73!!
Yes occasionally this morning there was a slight adjustment in the running but I put that down to me continually counting one to four and when she started the 1 to 4 count I was a fraction off, but it didn't concern me too much.
I am having a good day for my birthday. My daughter and her husband took me out for a birthday meal.
That Stepping Stones Podcast lasted 35 minutes, I notice the next one which is speed lasts about 25 minutes and consists of a few 150 Steps and then goes to 165 steps, I will do them sometime next week.
Thank you for wishing me a happy birthday but 'here's to the next 73,' well at least to the next 365 days of when I am 73 will be fine. I had a fantastic year when I was 72, one of the highlights of that year was the 18th June, the day I graduated from C25K. 😊 🏃 🎓
