I was out bright and early this morning for my 10k. 6.5 weeks of building up from 5k with some IT band issues and sports therapy along the way and I’ve done it! 🥳
It was a mental battle this morning getting to 5k and then thinking I’ve got to do that all over again now! In hindsight, coupling up two regular 5k routes of mine was not a wise idea.
The pace was a fair bit quicker than I was setting out to do but it is something I struggle with anyway. I’m joining my local running club on 4th June so hoping that will help.
Thanks Mike. That’s a good question! I’ve been wondering the same myself.
I’ve got 3 x 10k races booked (June, August and November). I’m still yet to attend Park Run aswell so I think I’ll stick to this distance for the rest of the year and concentrate on strengthening etc. If all goes well, I’ll then hopefully be in good shape for increasing in the New Year as I’ve got my eye on a couple of 10 mile races I’d like to do.
That sounds like a good plan - IMO 10km is long enough for the time being!
I am tempted to sign up for a race but want to be able to run 10k without any walking first. In my 10k last week I finished at 1:00:13 but spent I reckon a couple of minutes overall briskly walking 😕
If you're thinking about next steps there's a post linked in the FAQ post that's pinned that's all about what to do next that's pretty helpful.
Definitely worth attending at least 1 Park run. My local one attracted 830 runners last week, quite a few people.
I wish you all the best for your upcoming 10k races 👍🙏🏃♀️🏆🏅👋
