Little walking breaks?

Are there any downsides to taking a short walking break when your legs feel so tired that they hardly want to move?

thats what i seem to do no matter how long i run for i always seem to slow down i can run anything up to 13 miles but even on shorter runs i always slown down t a walk i never stop just walk for about 60 seconds or so then am of again and i do this a good few times but its just your body telling you to slow down i used to worry about it but i dont worry anymore as long as i do it thats all that matters to me some people do it for speed but not me am happy now at my speed just knowing that i can do is great keep it up

Yes it's fine! As you gain running experience you will get stronger and will need fewer walking breaks.

I don't think there is any problem with it at all! I intentionally put a short walk break into my first 10k after running continuously the week before and my legs going so heavy at about 6k that my pace dropped off significantly. It worked. Didn't feel tired at all.

I've listened to a few pod casts interviewing Jeff Galloway who came up with run-walk-run method. I'm definitely going to read some of his books as what he said seemed perfectly logical to me. People call it jeffing. Loads have completed marathons using the method and with good times. I find the idea very interesting...you may find that it may work for you?

I’m too stubborn to walk, but loads do it. I think it’s very widely done. 😀

I find it beneficial to throw in a few short walks on longer runs, makes it a lot easier if you need to take on board water, food, blow your nose, change music etc etc.
