Week 6 here I come

Just got back from my 4K recovery run this morning and I’m not sure it was a recovery run as I don’t feel any better now🤣🤣

Week 4 was a breeze- repeating it for week 5 was a nightmare. How can the same 3 runs and so different? Only a couple of weeks ago I was saying things like “ just popping out for a quick 5k” and now even 4K seems a struggle. The only thing that’s changed is that in between I have helped my daughter move from her flat to her house which was a monthlong mission, involving many many stairs and me carrying most of the stuff up and down them. She can never seem to get motivated so I need to nag, prod and organise her. And then when it was all down here it was me again unpacking and moving furniture.

Also I am in the process of trialling a new preventative inhaler ( as the other one gives me Oral Thrush at the back of my throat -quite common apparently- Which causes a cough and also splits at the side of my mouth - really annoying!!)

I’m not sure the new one is as effective as I’m struggling a bit breathing while I run but also it’s mega pollenny at the moment.

I’m not sure if I want to attempt week 6 yet. Daft isn’t it as I know I’ve completed it all before but just don't seem to be getting there this year. Last year I kept finding myself running more each time but now I cannot wait for the run to be over. I do hope this improves.

Last year I couldn’t wait for the running day to come and was runnjng every other day- this year I can talk myself out of running for 3 or 4 days. ☹️😥

Any advice please ??

Oops!

Only advice I can give is to recognise that you are absolutely rocking it!!

Any niggle has me struggling - specially with my breathing. On top of that the stress of a house move.

You’ve done brilliantly to get the week done.

In top of that - if you’re not in top form a few days break can really recharge the batteries and a couple of good runs later you’re back in the swing of it!!

I think we all have times when going for a run seems like a real chore, I know I do. It might be because of fatigue, being under the weather, being busy or a even a mixture of all these... I try to still push myself out the door but go much shorter distances at times like this. Telling myself "It's only 3k and you'll be done in 20 minutes" makes it a bit easier :) .... there's also a feeling of "well at least I have done something" :)

True. I retired last year but I have actually been more busy than ever before. And I just think “ I always used to be able to do this “ forgetting that that was 20+ years ago..🤣🥴

Without sounding smug, because that is really not the intention, we need to remember we are in the minority as regards running at our age (I'm fast coming up to 62) so we are really doing well just getting out there :)

True. I keep meeting people who say to me “ I hear you have retired now? Bet that’s nice and peaceful” and my daughter chips in with “ huh!! Retired and then took up running again!! Nutter!!”
