Done and dusted! What a brilliant event. πβ€οΈ
I was awake a lot last night, far too excited to sleep properly. So up with the lark (as was Dexy5 too, judging by the time of her PM! π )
No faffage as I had everything laid out, so utilised the useful Park and Ride and was in Bristol by 8.30.
Met up with some of my husbandβs office gazelle team, then Dexy and UTS showed up, grinning happily! ππ
UTS was in the faster White wave, Dexy and I were in the Pink. Some excited waiting around and we were off! ππββοΈπββοΈ A sea of happy people, walking and running.
I started off quite fast according to Dexy, and I was happy to stay with her until around 5.5k when my fast start began to take its toll on my legs! π She disappeared off into the distance and I continued my trot. Loads of high fives and well wishers and offers of jelly babies. π
I saw my family in 2 places and my daughters were whooping loudly for me! β€οΈβ€οΈ
Itβs a lovely course, taking in lots of Bristolβs sights. It was, for the most part, flat - but by golly, when you have jelly legs like I did at the end, every minute little incline seems like Everest! But I continued snailing away and came in (according to Strava) at 1:18:46 for 10k - so a PB for me! π Dexy and UTS were pleased with their times too. ππ Weβll get our official results later today. Edited to add that it came through as 1:19:49. Still happy, still a PB as I was aiming for sub 1:20 for the first time. π
So, first race done and dusted. First piece of bling collected, plus a finishersβ tee shirt to match my Garmin strap! How thoughtful!
Next up, Bristol Race for Life 10k at the end of June! ππ

Congratulations to you Cheeky, Dexy5 and UpTheStanley for your wonderful run this morning at the Bristol 10K, lovely photo of all three of you.
I was reading about 'wave colours' at race events, you did particularly well, well done, onwards and upwards to another 10K in Bristol at the end of June. π π
Yay!!!!!!! ππππππ. Congratulations and well done. What a fabulous run and what a happy run Cheeky. πππΌββοΈπππ.
Thanks Wimborne, it was truly happy all the way, even though my legs felt like theyβd rather walk a few times towards the end! I told them off and they carried on running! πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
I was so happy that Dexy and UTS were able to make it to Bristol, even though they could have easily stuck closer to home and run Southampton instead. We all had a great time! π
Whoohoo! Congrats cheekychipmunks , Dexy5 and UpTheStanley on a great race! What wonderful pictures - the smiles say it all! Display that bling proudly.
Congratulations! ππ Inspiring run report and ultra-festive photos. ππΌ And I love that the family both cheered you on AND are sorting lunch. Such a good team.
Well done all! I did it too, my first 10k. The atmosphere was great and was so grateful to the complete strangers shouting my name in encouragement, particularly towards the end! The early sunshine on the portway caught me by surprise a bit so it was definitely a relief to get back in the shade. I'll be celebrating with a long soak in the bath whilst contemplating the next challenge.
Oh yes, that sun was brutal wasnβt it? Not so bad running out, but on the way back it was a killer! I also found the bit along Commercial Rd (past Aardman) quite a challenge - so loooong and not totally flat!
I agree about total strangers calling our names and giving high fives. Amazing! β€οΈ
Yes, any slight incline at that stage feels like a mountain! I felt like walking so many times but something kept me going. Enjoy some well earned r&r now!
Well done Nels1234. Despite factor 30 on my face, it was glowing all day. Maybe from the wind as we sped along at the speed of light (not). Confession: I walked a minute at the base of that last bridge! Loved the cool shade in the underpasses. Were you happy with your time too?
No shame in that, it was hot! I am happy with my time, it's a pb but then that was pretty much a given as I've never gone further than 9k before! I was quicker than I'd usually go for the first 5k and then about on my average pace for the rest and came in on 1hour 20.
And me! Iβm counting the days down to June 30th when itβs Race for Life. I even have a holiday in France to look forward to before that, but I havenβt really given it much thought! π³ππ
Ahh yes youβre right Wiggy, it was really special and it was a beautiful day too. Surprisingly warm, but with a cooling breeze every now and then. It was magic. π
That is so true uncle Wiggy , except when your first 10k turns out to be 9.5k, so 2 weeks later you are doing it again. This was like an enormous long parkrun with bling Highly recommended !
Fantastic and a PB on the day what more could you ask. well done and you have another on the horizon. Thereβs no stopping you now. A great day all round π πΎπππ₯π
Iβm smiling as I read your reply. How strange it felt reading such things as pace and PBβs when we stared our C25k journey and here we are living it. The New C25kers must think the same as I did βrunning is easy for someβ but we both know how much work and how many miles we have covered on our journey, itβs never easy but it is really enjoyable. Especially after that PB comes along or a Beautiful run ππ
Here here. when weβre up everyone is up and when weβre down everyone helps to bring us up. Thatβs because we all come from the same start and have experienced the same hurdles. mind you not sure how many have suffered with yoga toe π Enjoy your post run buzz and again well done ππ
Great report Cheekyπ, and a great day too. I was really happy with the way my race went, having missed my start wave thanks to the loo queueβΉοΈ I had a lot of overtaking to do which may be why my Garmin thinks I ran 10.14kπ€, but anyway I was inside my superstretch target of 5β15β/k pace at 52β04β - so a nice 30 year PB!π₯
Btw Cheeky, for someone whose home Parkrun is Southsea, that wasnβt βmostly flatβ either!π
PBS for Dexy for 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10k too, I think, subject to scrutiny π
So all round it was a fantastic day - onwards and upwards πββοΈππ½ββοΈπΊ
Congratulations UTS and a excellent 52.04 PB for you, enjoy your celebrations this afternoon and evening, congratulations also to your wife for those PB'S of 6 to 10Ks, what a fantastic day both of you have had. π π π
Wasnβt it a wonderful day UTS? It was so lovely to see you both. Thank you for making the trip to Bristol, especially as you found out about Southampton! ππββοΈπββοΈπ
It was certainly a lovely event, and Iβll do it again next year for certain. I agree about the βmostly flatβ comment! No big hills, but lots of sneaky inclines!
You guys ran great times. π I was very pleased with my outward bound 5k - my 2nd or 3rd fastest as far as I can tell. That pace did did legs in from 6k onwards though! Nonetheless I was happy with my 10k PB!
Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in Bristol. π
Itβs a nice little show isnβt it? Hope you had fun. π
I met my husband and went for a riverside dog walk up to the pub. He had a few hours to kill between coaching sessions (rowing) and I thought a walk would benefit my legs. It did! π
It was lovely. Especially enjoyed watching the sheep shearing competition. But if anyone finds a wedding ring in that vast area, itβs Stanleyβs. Loss of weight due to running I think π€
Oh nooooo. Thatβs such a shame Dexy. Is there a number to ring re lost property I wonder? Iβd be happy to pop over and pick it up if it was found. Iβm only 10 minutes from the showground.
Thanks kind cheeky, but we did we report it to the officials so they could ring if found. Needle in a haystack scenario though. I think weβll have to go shopping for a smaller one.
Yesssssss! Definitely another PR meetup! We could come to yours if you liked Wimborne ? ππββοΈππββοΈππββοΈππββοΈ
Just noticed the results of yesterday's Keswick Parkrun, that 90/95 year old man just gets better and better, he usually runs it in around 42 minutes, yesterday it was sub 40 minutes. π
Well done cheekychipmunks Dexy5 and UpTheStanley for a brilliant race. Lovely photos and the smiles just say it all. Now relax and celebrate with a small glass or two πππββοΈπββοΈππ»ββοΈπ π₯
Wonderful pictures and huge well done to all three of you!ππ π π π I ran this event three years ago (as my first big event) and would love to do it again some day. Looks like the weather smiled on you too! π
Itβs a fantastic event isnβt it Sandra? The weather was beautiful, albeit it quite warm when running back along the Portway into the sun. πββοΈ βοΈ π₯΅
Whoop whoop πππΎπͺπ I was thinking of you today and am thrilled you enjoyed it so much. Well done on your PB! Did they have the bands? And did you dance? π It's a brilliant atmosphere, one for the memory bank.
Lovely photos, great bling and well done also to Dexy5 and UpTheStanley , you're all fabulous πͺπͺπͺ
Thanks IP! Yes there were several bands, it was such a happy atmosphere. π No dancing for me - my legs had one job today, and that was to run 10k! π π
Itβs fun running with fellow C25Kers, Fab! Youβre not too far from here are you? Would you fancy a parkrun meet-up somewhere one day? Weβd have such fun! β€οΈ
Oh yes, 100% addictive CH! π Iβm already looking forward to June 30th when I do Race for Life - and then the Severn Bridge 10k in August! Someone mentioned Cardiff has a good one in September too. I wonder? π€ π€ π π
Well done cheeky! Great to get a PB and nice bit of bling to start your collection. Reading this has made me quite excited for my first official 10 next month.
I have to admit Iβve been thoroughly spoilt Floss. Not only did hubby make lunch for us, he bought me π π· πΉ too! Think I should run 10k races more often! π
Thank you Katnap, we all ran great times and had a fabulous day! Have you guys run Bristol? If not, next year perhaps? I think Wimborne has plans to join me! ππββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Donβt worry cheeky, Iβll persuade him! Iβm itching to come down, Iβve never seen Bristol properly and Iβd love to have a go at your race, let alone Ashton Court pr π€π
That would be fantastic TC! As the 10k is on a Sunday, we could do Ashton Court PR the previous day as a βgentleβ warmup! π³π Our running legs will have an extra yearβs worth of miles on them, so no challenge! πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπππ
My legs are being treated to life back on the couch this evening Cazza! Itβs been a magical day and I canβt wait for the next race (June 30th .... not that Iβm counting down the days or anything!) π
Well done to you all! Wasnβt it fab? Lovely route and perfect weather. Already thinking about next years! Hard to think this time last year we would never have dreamed we could do this!
My medal has been placed in pride of place for my family to admire. Except itβs me whoβs admiring it! And as for π€ΈββοΈ π€ΈββοΈ, well my legs are currently on strike, so no, not those! π π
Congratulations to you cheeky! Just so lovely to read of your great joy! So lovely too that your husband cooked lunch and bought you flowers. What a day you have had! Brilliant! πΎπ₯π ππ»πππβοΈ π₯β‘οΈ πββοΈπ€ΈββοΈπββοΈπ€ΈββοΈπββοΈπ€ΈββοΈ
A truly amazing day over61! And as uncle_wiggy pointed out, there will only be one first 10k race to enjoy. Today couldnβt have been any better, and the wonderful comments on here have just made it even better! β€οΈβ€οΈ
Looks like you all had a fantastic time cheeky, and is that blue sky I spy there? Perfect conditions too? Congratulations to you, Dexy5 and UpTheStanley πππππ π π
Oh yes TC, the sky was most definitely blue! Surprisingly so, as the forecast had been for βοΈ βοΈ. The shades were compulsory and Iβm so happy with my new ones. No slippage! π
It was the best day! ππ πββοΈππββοΈβ€οΈ
So sorry I havenβt been on here since the run but thought it was a bit naughty to be on my phone as a guest. Totally exhausted now and will be back soon. Thanks so much for your company, just loved my day, and following visit to Mrs Potts Chocolate Shop - say no more. π
Oh gosh, no need to apologise Dexy! I had the perfect chance to post on here yesterday afternoon, as my husband and son were busy watching Man Utd on tv. Suffice to say, my day was better than theirs! π
What a fabulous happy event. Thank you soooo much for coming! I know Iβd have felt vaguely responsible if it hadnβt been fun! Safe trip home! β€οΈ
Just absolutely brilliant Cheeky! Love your photo, great time too. No conversation with OH this morning at the breakfast table, wanted to read your race report first π lovely bling too! π
It was so lovely seeing everyone rummaging in their finish packs for their bling and putting it on GOG! A wonderful reward for running a long (for lots) way! β€οΈ
Congratulations to all of you! The fabulous photo says it all - you should be very proud. Each time I read about 10k races I do feel inspired to pluck up the courage to have a go on day. Hope you're all still basking in glory and the legs are less wobbly! π π₯
