Quick update to my boring IC reports

OK its been 3 weeks now and after an MRI my consultant has diagnosed that I have pulled a muscle! Lots of expensive equipment and highly qualified doctors I feel like bit of a fraud! My Iliacus muscle to be specific, A common runners injury apparently (also known as hip flexor strain) especially those who spend all day sitting at a desk which causes the Iliacus to shorten. So looks like its yoga and stretching for me going forward to support my running. Anyway its good to know whats going on and after hobbling around on Monday and Tuesday I've seen a huge improvement since then, so a week more rest and hopefully back out on the street. Thanks for all your support everyone over the last few weeks on the IC

Glad to hear it use just a pulled muscle so you will be returning to running soon. Time to fit in some yoga and stretching - good advice for all of us, I reckon.

Thanks SaskAlliecat. I'm the worst at warming up and stretching so maybe a wake up call for me!

I’ve started to integrate some dynamic stretches for my warm up and it seems to help. I’m not always good about the after run stretching though either. I did a short run on the trail yesterday and “forgot” to stretch. My shins are more sore today than they were after I ran my HM last week. Go figure. That’ll teach me, but I figured it wasn’t even a 5k run so wasn’t really necessary. Wrong!

It’s good to know it’s nothing worse and easily fixable. Bet that’s a relief? 😊

Yep defo. As a pretty slow runner I've been fairly injury free so far so it was a new experience. Strange thing was over 2.5 weeks it got worse but has got better quickly since then. So it was all new to me. Have to try to be more careful in future!!

Very true. I seem to be on a steep learning curve as far as running goes . But thankfully no injuries yet. Hope you feel better soon.

So dull being on the IC, hope the recovery goes well and you'll be out there again soon. You'll need to get a standing desk!

Thanks Gran4z. Standing desk definitely a good idea!

Thanks for sharing steviej99. I have been doing occasional stretches that help but I do think I should be doing more yoga type stretching.

Anyways hopefully you'll be up and running again soon 😂😀👍

Ps ..don't know if this might help u or make worse but sometimes sit on a tennis ball at work!

Take care

Great you have a diagnosis at last Stevie. It means you know what you’re working with. I do yoga (did - currently taking time off due to a painful rotator cuff caused by, erm, too much yoga 🤦‍♀️) It’s fantastic for flexibility and core strength.

Nice that you’re already seeing an improvement. Long may it continue! 👍😀

Thanks cheekychipmunks. Never done yoga and I'm a very stiff hipped unsupple 62yo - guess that's why I ought to start!

Give it a try, it’s fantastic! I use an online instructor and she’s great fun. I’ve never been to a class. 🧘‍♀️

Hi Steve. I find yoga helpful, I haven’t been to a class in years. The link below, if it works, is for a short beginner morning stretch with Brett Larkin at The Greatist on You Tube hthere are loads on there) which I find good and not too difficult.

I do hope that you are soon able to run. Very pleased to read that you are seeing an improvement. We never knew all the things we would learn about while beginning to run, did we?

Too true and thanks. Long may you remain injury free
