Hello my lovely running family...

Thank you all sooooo much for your kind words & advice, I’m feeling all loved & cared for!!

Over the weekend my ankle has felt much better but I can still feel a little niggle now & again, so today I rung my sports physio friend Emma & she asked me to go up to her clinic at 1:30...oooo, I’m going to find out what’s up, hoorah!!

I explained to her the pain & feelings I’ve been having so she had a little press, then asked me to lay on my front on her bed..to be honest, I don’t like being faffed about with, I’m not one for massages or spa’s, I’m very low maintainance in that department, well, any department really!! (Apart from runnning stuff now!!!) but, when she started to gently rub up & down the muscle it felt SO good... she did some ultrasound & that felt good too, then she put some tape on, had me hopping & bending my knees & showed me some ‘up & down’ moves (the edge of the steps one?)

She said that I have just overworked the muscles at the side of my Achilles, probably because that foot compensated for the lack of ‘bounce’ in my ‘no kneecap’ leg...THANK GOODNESS it is nothing serious. So I’m to keep this tape on for 5 days & not run for the same amount of days...& when I can press the muscles at the side of my Achilles & it doesn’t hurt, that’s the time to try some short runs...

I’m so pleased that Emma has confirmed that it is nothing that can’t be fixed with time & patience...if ever you get a chance to have someone proddle an injury, let them, you will feel better for it!!

Happy running everyone...I’ll be watching...budge up Berksrover , let’s talk about Tenerife...😉

So pleased that it’s nothing too serious Mummycav. It’s amazing what those exercises can do once an expert takes a look. Not long now.

Like you Mummycav my leg is feeling a lot better but still get the odd twinge so am not risking anything just yet, if I get further improvement tomorrow I may try a gentle jog.

As for Tenerife, forecast is hot, dry, mainly sunny, can't wait! 😎

I'll be looking for the update....this IC will be a lonely place when youre gone though, but hopefully not much longer for me, I cant stand seeing all these folk running past my house, they all look so, well, you know, runnerlike...

Well I went out, did a slow 5k, can feel my calf a bit but hopefully not done any more damage, will be at least Sunday before I go out again, so hopefully a bit more rest will help, hope you are back out there soon Mummycav and Ripcurlrana71 thanks for your kind wishes as always x

Oh I'm glad to hear this! You must be relieved & glad to have more knowledge of this particular problem which you can monitor more closely now & in the future. Roll on next weekend and a super run in the making for you... X

Great news Bev.

Such a comfort to have the expertise of your friend Emma.

You would need that for the complexity of your no kneecap leg.

You are a real trooper and inspiritational in what you have and will achieve.

💥🏃‍♀️💥👏👏

Such lovely words, as ever, Tbae ...I am dying to go out there into this beautiful weather, im sure the streets are missing me!! It will be all worthwhile when I'm at one with the outdoors again x

Great news

Duddles profile image

I may have said this to you before, but I had recurring Achilles problems years ago, and was advised I may have been using my trainers for too long. So I bought a new pair and the problems disappeared almost overnight.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toDuddles

Ooooo, interesting 🤔...now, I know I said I’m low maintainance but I did say not where runnings concerned! Up & running here I come!!! 😉

Duddles profile image
Duddles in reply toMummycav

Apparently shoes wear gradually, you don't notice it, and end up running with an unintentional limp. The more you run, the more distortion is put on the joint - or in my case the Achilles.

Glad you got some expert advice. I found heel drops were an absolute godsend when I had achilles related problems a year or so ago, so hopefully you'll soon be back to fighting fitness (well running fitness anyway).

Thanks Razouski ...they certainly are!!

Sandraj39 profile image

Good news that it will hopefully settle soon Mummycav . Rest up for a few days and then gently back to running sounds like a really positive outcome. And I agree, a good physio is worth their weight in gold.😊

They certainly are Sandraj39 and shes only a two min walk up the hill from me too, honestly, I am blessed where I live!!! x

So glad you got some expert advice, MC - and it sounds all very fixable hooray! A week’s rest will do wonders for your running, too, resting up all those hardworking muscles and ligaments. Heal quickly and do those exercises religiously. Big hug from me. xxx

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toSadie-runs

Thank you Sadie-runs , I am doing those exercises religiously & am waiting patiently for the 5 days to be up!! Hug warmly accepted xx

Irishprincess profile image

Oh I didn't know you had a problem with your ankle Mummycav . But it sounds good news for you. Phew!

I've had ankle problems since May, they can take ages to heal because of the low blood supply, so frustrating but we always need to keep an eye on them. In the heat my ankles puffed up like puffa fish! Not a good look 😳

Glad you enjoyed the "massage". Now you've turned that corner you might want to consider regular sports massages 😩

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toIrishprincess

I think that's a good idea Irishprincess , I enjoyed the massage, which is def not like me!! Ankle problems are a right royal pain aren't they?! ankles & knees are the essential parts!!

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessGraduate10 in reply toMummycav

Not sure "enjoy" is a word I'd use about a sports massage 😩

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toMikeJones68

Thanks MikeJones68 , I was def thinking the worst!!

Phew, so pleased its not serious. A five day rest will have you prancing like a gazelle again xxx

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to

hahaha Hidden ….I wish I did run like a gazelle but that all in my mind, I could tell by the beefcake's face that day on the canal!! These 5 days are dragging....

in reply toMummycav

The beefcake night have felt the same, that you were fleeting by like a racehorse while he thumped along. That five days will go fast, and you will feel all the better for a break,I bet x

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to

hahaha he might've been but he didn't show it! I def will feel better after a break, just hope I don't struggle with fitness, I've been swimming & to pilates this week to keep things moving, but there's nowt like running is there? x

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10

Clever you getting it looked at Mummycav...and a reassuring result.😊

Overworked muscles is a fair reason to take a rest too😉! Lots of kms in those ankles the last few weeks..

Follow your phsyio's advice and all will be well. Take care😊xx

I will run for you this evening.😘....

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toBluebirdrunner

Thanks Bluebirdrunner , I enjoyed that run!! They certainly have run some distance over the last couple of months so its no wonder theyre complaining!! I am sticking to the exercises & resisting the temptation of running in this beautiful weather! :-/ xx

misswobble profile image
misswobbleGraduate10

Me neither. Can’t afford it anyway 😃. I did have an ultrasound sesh once when I first got my shin splint. Holy shi*e. The thing must have over stimulated my pain receptors or something 😤. Never again 😁

Get slowly back to it, go steady and it will heal Hot Epsom salts baths 👍😃🏃‍♀️

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply tomisswobble

Thanks misswobble , I have some Epsom salts now thanks to you!! Every little helps as they say!!

Good news ... often our minds run away with itself and comes back with worse case scenario.. great to have a good diagnosis

Hope you are fully recoveted soon 😀

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to

Youre right Hidden , I was thinking the worst that maybe I really am not a runner & my body is shouting this at me...But, thankfully, I was wrong!

Fab news indeed

I took my (gymnast and hyper-mobile) daughter to a sports physiology with a bad back. I was incredibly impressed with how quickly and efficiently he diagnosed and gave exercises that did the trick

(Apparently slouching is a good thing!)

Keep on the right side of Emma and stay patient 👩‍⚕️

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to

Wow Hidden , who'd have thought that about slouching??!! Glad your daughter is ok though & the exercises are priceless aren't they?
