Running with the Flyers

Well after a bit of encouragement from a friend I decided to join a local club for their morning run. We went together so that helped too. But I didn’t have to worry. Every one was so friendly, encouraging and supportive despite us being at the back they waited for us to catch up and back markers kept us company.

So glad I went. I ran hills for the first time and even up the full length of Southend-on-Sea high street with people cheering, laughing and saying well done.

My body knows I did something extraordinary and Garmin confirmed it. 😊

Thank goodness all I have to do now is cook dinner tonight! 🏃🏻‍♀️😊

Thank you all for your advice and encouragement. I could not have done this without you. Thank you. 😊

Brilliant. Running with a group is great. You will also learn about local running events and your own running will improve greatly. Well done.

ohhhh well done you!

I'm pleased you enjoyed it. You've taken the first step now. fab

I'm still debating it, I know I should bite the bullet and do it tho, but keep coming up with excuses... A few from the club do my local parkrun, so I do plan to have a chat soon :-)

Go for it. I was the same. Wasn’t confident that I ran fast enough. But I think a lot were just out for a gentle run so it was fine. It was nice as we can choose which runs we do.

Plus everyone was so welcoming. 😊

That sounds brilliant! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊 I always worry I’m going to hold everyone back so I don’t like going with other people much but your one sounds great 👍🏻

I felt the same but they were so supportive. I think it’s worth trying. 😊

Well done, it sounds like you had a great time Knittingrunner. You’ll soon be flying.

My gym has just started a running improvers class but it’s at 6.30 so I think it might be aimed at a younger age group than yours, especially as the coach is a Portsmouth elite female runner. I might go and watch though - see if I can pick up tips.

That sounds interesting. Bet you pick up lots of tips.

I see you have your 60 min graduate badge. Are you going to do the magic plan to 10k next? I’ve done it twice now. Only get one badge though.

I’m just going for 10k at the moment. Almost there. Got to 8.5k this week. Plan is to get there beginning of June 🤞.

Thanks. I want to get there soon so I’m confident for my first 10k race in October.

Thank you. It isn’t going to be fast. More snails pace but I’m determined to do it. 🐌

wow - well done knittingrunner it sounds like you had a great time!

I hope they did not have you running up the hill from the seafront to high street 😯 that hill is a beast to walk up let alone run!

KnittingrunnerGraduate10 in reply toalisonx

🤣 yes they did! It is a beast. The first time I walked up it I thought I’d die! But yesterday I managed 1/2. I think I’m a whole lot fitter now. Maybe one day I’ll be able to run the whole thing 🥵
