Down hill Stitch?

So I've been running a 10k and 2 x 5k a week for the past couple of moths with no issues.. then out of nowhere last week I started getting a painful stitch like pain right side under ribs. I had a slight upset tummy last week so I thought meby wind.

But nop- still around this week. :(

I've realised it's hurting down hill only then stops instantly on the uphill bits. (My rout is very hilly) Pushing my tummy where it hurts and tightening my core helped a little today so I could keep running.

I've been reading up on causes - I'm just thinking I started running in Sept and threw the winter I've been running in high wasted thick long leggings and since it got warmer I've swapped to some capri leggings I had but with a lower waste and not so tight.

Could it be the higher wasted legging were helping? - I think they had 'tummy control' could that have been stopping my insides jiggling about so much :P

Has anyone herd of anything like that?? Or dose it sound bonkers?

I'm going to try my next run in the high wasted leggings again to see if it makes a difference. :)

So tried the high wasted leggings today no stitch & fastest 5k in over a month. :)

The high waste band sits over my naval with elastic just under the ribs - right where I get the stitch with the low wasted trews.

Guess the are helping to stop the jarring on the supporting tissues round the liver.

I thought my core was strong as I do lots of yoga I'll try strengthening obliques and see if that helps.

Not an expert on the subject but the main reasons for a stitch that I've heard of are related to hydration, breathing and speed with the last too possibly being related. Never heard of clothing being an issue bit I can see that if it's so tight that it inhibits either your breathing or your circulation then that might come into it. Possible solutions: drink more water the day before a run, try going a bit slower, focus on breathing OUT fully (as then breathing in will tend to take care of itself or so they say.)

Running does make our insides jiggly so it's nothing to worry about. Deep belly breaths helps as if you're blowing up a balloon, slow down and if it gets bad then stop and stretch that area as that seems to help me.

Rather than a stitch it could also be weak obliques. Check out some YouTube videos on how to strengthen.

Thanks Irishprincess I think your spot on with the obliques!

I ran today with the high wasted leggings with no pain - they give slight support just were I get the pain. I'm hyper mobile in all of my joints, I wonder if I have looser connective tissue inside too :)

Anyhoo of to google specific oblique strengtheners now - I do hip dips and one leg crunches all ready but I certainly don't find them at all easy. :D
