Time to retire my Brooks GTS17’s. They have served me well, 36 Parkruns, countless laps of my 5K and 7K routes, got me through C25K and up to 10K. But they have logged over 850 km’s and need to retire.
So hello and welcome to my new Brooks GTS19’s. I tried a few pairs but really liked these, not pretty to look at I don’t think but very comfortable. Hopefully these serve me as well and I get another 800 km’s out of them.

Advice: get your second pair before you actually need them. I was desperately searching for the next pair while running in rapidly deteriorating ones. Panic
It also allows you to alternate the shoes so that is good for your feet and you recognise when the first pair have got past it.
They just don't last. I've got supportive insoles in to try and maintain good foot position but squishy ones get destroyed in no time. I'm considering trying steel toe cap trainers in the hope they may be better but am wary of no ankle support/protection...
Most of my running is done in GTS19s... I actually quite like that they're a bit understated as I get away with wearing them most of the time at work, too.
A word of warning Pianism. I cannot for the life of me find a link, but I did read on the brooks website that the soles of the shoes were designed for running and uneven or premature wear may be incurred by using them for walking and standing . They do produce casual walking shoes so these might be better than ruining your expensive runners.
Yeah I used my last pair strictly for running. And had them registered on Garmin Connect so as I could monitor the Km’s on them. I’ll be doing the same with these shoes.
I love the way Brooks have added colour to their new shoes.
I was so disappointed when I found the GTS18s were discontinued but am now getting used to the 19s
I wish you many happy miles. You got many more out of your 17s than I did from the 18s. Apparently there was a problem with forefoot wear with the 18s.
Thank you. The 17’s were great, I really liked them. I skipped the 18’s. I don’t really like the look of the the 19’s but at the end of the day they are not a fashion accessory. So long as they are comfortable to run in and last me 800km I’ll be happy. I’m looking forward to breaking them in.
I’ve never had to break them in. Just lace up and go. Having said that, I wouldn’t go out and do 10k in a new shoe, just in case. But I did 4k with no probs.
No not tested them yet. I’ve been resting since Tuesday. I have a 10K night run tomorrow night in Dublin starting at 9pm. Not sure whether to wear my old shoes or take a chance on the improvement of cushioning and support from the new shoes.
