I've read that socks are as important as shoes so any recommendations, especially to avoid blisters? Thanks.

I bought 4 pairs of Hilly socks 2 years ago. They are still like new, wash really well. And fantastic for running, no blisters, and very comfortable. They are designed for Marathon runners. Specialist Running shops should have them or go online. They might be a little more expensive but they are worth it.

Loads of decent socks out there. I’ve got a few pairs of Hilly socks and some nice Stance ones. Saw this recently which might be helpful:
More Mile for me
Another vote for the Hilly socks, get the double layer ones.
I have inov8 ones and they’re great. Come up slightly higher than usual trainer socks so no rubbing from back of shoe. Got them from northern runner online. Need to buy some more pairs!
I have some Nike ones that are really comfy. I think I picked them up in Sports Direct. They are really padded and have good arch support. I’ve been amazed at how much difference a pair of socks can make 👍
