Ive been running again since new year and completed C25K in middle March, I’ve now been running regularly and slowly increasing my distance.......BUT
After my last run ( 5K ) on Tuesday I think I have a serious knee problem.
Whilst walking upstairs immediately after my run I heard what I thought was me treading on something until I realized the noise was my left knee.
I describe the noise as walking onto a crisp packet, quite loud and I can feel weakness now as the weeks go on, on grinding when my hand is on my knee.
I had knee surgery in my right knee 2 years ago, torn cartilage and a slight crack to the rear side of my patella, not caused through running.
So has anyone had this or heard of this problem? At the moment I’ve stopped running which is devasting !

Yes ill get a physio appointment as soon as. I just don’t want to stop, if it was just noisy I’d carry on but it feels weak when I lean forward on the left, thanks
I hesitate to admit it on this forum, but I am a physio. However, I specialise in respiratory and end of life care so I’m not a lot of help (I hope!!). However, the noise you describe is called crepitus and generally isn’t a great sign. Lots of people have clicky joints, which is often benign, but a new onset symptom with weakness is certainly something to get checked. Is it comfortable to do any strengthening work? Knee symptoms can occur through weak glutes, but quads and hamstrings work will be important too. Let us know how you get on
