Hello lovely runners. I hope you all had or plan to have fantastic runs on this cracking Easter weekend. What a treat for us all. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈβ˜€οΈπŸƒπŸ˜Žβ€οΈ

I’m home now after doing parkrun. It was a lovely run this morning, just trotting along attached to my dog. πŸ• It’s not often I take time to appreciate how lucky we are to have such a gorgeous park slap bang in the middle of the city. It’s surrounded on 3 sides by busy roads, one of them being the M32 - and one of the Marshal posts is under its underpass! πŸ˜³πŸ˜…

You’d never know it though ..... look at the pics I took - so tranquil. ❀️ There’s even a pretty lake with ducks and swans. πŸ¦† 🦒

So if anyone is ever in or around Bristol and you fancy coming to see for yourself, I thoroughly recommend my β€œhome” parkrun at Eastville Park! πŸ‘

Happy running everyone! πŸ˜€

Glad you enjoyed your run today Cheeky, those lovely photos looks like as if it's way out in the countryside miles from anywhere, not in the middle of a city, I think its near Bristol, enjoy the rest of Easter.

PS. As part of my runiversary rerun season, a year last Wednesday since I began C25K, this morning I reran run 1 of week 4, next week I'll do week 5, not ran for more than 5 minutes since last October so once again feeling a little nervous about run 3 of week 5.

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

It really does look like the countryside doesn’t it Al? And yes it is in Bristol. πŸ˜€

I love your runniversary idea. I’m going to do a similar thing for mine when it comes up in June! πŸ‘ Have fun, and I’m sure you’ll be fine with W5R3! I bet it’ll be quite nostalgic! πŸƒπŸ‘πŸ˜€

Your home parkrun definitely looks good in this weather! We had 'incidents' reported at our local parkrun... But it was very busy. 2nd highest attendance ever!

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Katnap

Thanks Katnap, I felt very warm and fuzzy when I walked up to it this morning! ❀️

β€œIncidents”? Crikey, nothing serious I hope, and it didn’t affect the running? 😳

Our attendance was down a little compared to the past few weeks, although still close to 500. Never can tell can you? πŸ˜€

Katnap profile image
KatnapGraduate10 in reply to cheekychipmunks

A n other park user was 'crashed' into by 3x runners. I wasn't there but I guess the person may not have been actively avoiding runners. Also we have a local rule to stay on the left when the faster runners are lapping us snails bur there seemed to be a bigger number of joggers with headphones who didn't hear or ignored the shouts.

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Katnap

Ahh, yes we have that rule too, although it’s not always adhered to. πŸ™„ Wonder if it was a β€œcrash” or a gentle nudge? And I’m sure whatever it was was accidental.

Shame about the headphone wearers though - they don’t give us runners a great name do they? If I wear mine, I only put one ear in! 🎢 πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜‡

Katnap profile image
KatnapGraduate10 in reply to cheekychipmunks

It makes sense to do that so you're less distracted. Anyway, you miss all the banter otherwise! 😁

cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Katnap

Absolutely! πŸ‘πŸ˜€

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply to Katnap

Ouch! Our parkrun is the same we are told to stick to the left as the lead runners heading home are accompanied by a mountainbiker out front warning everyone. This parkrun winds it way up a tree lined gully with lots of blind corners, like cheekychipmunks I also have only 1 earphone in, much safer.

I plan to travel over to Eastville Park Parkrun later in the year. My Son Oisin and I are going to do the compass challenge. We did Westport in the west of Ireland 2 weeks ago. So West is knocked off the Compass. East is next and Eastville is the course. Looks beautiful. We will be over in September or October.

I’ll buy you a coffee and cake when we fly over.

Well how lovely! I played hundreds of times in that park, thank you, but now live miles away in Berkshire. I’m in my sixties but the old outdoor swimming pool at the top was something we d scale the walls of. I think it became a mini nature reserve or something. Anyway, my mother, now 94, swan in it when she was a child! Dear old Eastville! CHSisson wrote a poem called EP, very evocative. I think if I was near I might try the run from the park through Stapleton along the Frome to Snuff Mills and back, is you can still do that! Beautiful. Great run!

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Plodplod

Oh how wonderful Plodplod, what fabulous memories! ❀️ Thank you so much for sharing them. πŸ˜€ Yes, the old pool is still at the top, looking a bit sad it must be said. It’s such a beautiful place. I often run there just because, even though I don’t live in the city itself - it’s worth the drive (just avoid rush hour!). The hill up from the lake to the top is excellent fitness training and trotting around the lake is lovely.

I’ve heard about the Snuff Mills run, but I’ve yet to attempt it. This summer could be that time!

If ever you’re back in Bristol, please pop along. πŸ˜€

Plodplod profile image
Plodplod in reply to cheekychipmunks

Hi again, well half a century (or actually more) (how did that happen) the steps were called granny steps by all the kids. Whenever they drained the lake they piled the weed and silt and debris onto the last part of the park which is it was an odd large field at the back of Redhill Drive. The land to the R of granny steppe was derelict, but we used to collect the many many oyster shells scattered there, Roman or later, when oysters were common and the food of the masses. What else. Boating lake of course, and most winters the Frome would flood and the strip of land between lake and river would be inundated. We think odd weather is s modern phenomenon, but maybe that’s because media journos are young so remember little. I remember the whole of Eastville itself under four feet of water, before the storm water tunnel was constructed. And Eastville Park running down to line of houses before M32 built and railway arches blown up. Blimey, that’s going back! Thanks again, never done a park run because I can’t get 5k in under 40mins!!

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Plodplod

That is truly fascinating! What a fabulous history. I knew nothing of that, as even though I’m from Bristol, I never actually lived in the city, apart from a couple of years in Cliftonwood back in the 1980’s. I’m mid 50’s so not that much younger than you, but I went to school in Bath. Bristol was for going shopping back then!

I shall run round Eastville Park with a renewed outlook next time. πŸ˜€ Wonderful.

Oh, and plenty of people run/walk parkrun in way over 40 minutes so you’d be fine! πŸ‘

Plodplod profile image
Plodplod in reply to cheekychipmunks

Very kind words! Cliftonwood is pastel lovely, views over harbourside. I have a beautiful watercolour of it on wall here. I left Clifton 12 years ago, so haven’t seen Eastville Park for a while. There’s a park run here, at Greenham, but I’m just a bit not wanting to be last. Not good grammar but you ll know what I mean! I love this running thing, started 11 months ago,so nearly one now! My times are improving. Slowly!!!!

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Plodplod

Wonderful! I’m doing the Bristol 10k in 2 weeks which takes in the Harbour and views of the pastel coloured houses before heading out the Portway under the bridge. Can’t wait!

I started running in June last year and now I’m totally hooked. I’m slow too - ever so gradually getting quicker, but for me speed is secondary to the love of being able to run a whole 10k compared to being thankful for when the minute was over during W1 of C25K!

You wouldn’t be last at parkrun, 100%, and I fully recommend giving it a try at some point. I think you’d be converted! πŸ˜€

Plodplod profile image

Woah that’s impressive! I ll cheer you on, metaphorically! I’d also send a pic of the beautiful Cliftonwood watercolour but no idea how to manage that..!

Well done CC. Great to have such a wonderful open space almost to yourself at that time of morning. Think an evening run will have to be my answer to the weather today. Good to be back in shorts and shirt though. Trying to make inroads into the winter whiteness! Keep smiling 😊

Looks a lovely venue Cheeky. I can feel another trip out in the van once we get back from France at the end of summer! I really don’t do shorts, but donned my Lincoln 10k t-shirt and cropped leggings for a more summery look. One of the visitors yesterday was in a Lyme Park t-shirt, looking forward to a flat run! Happy Easter x

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Sandie1961

Now Lyme Park is one which scares me! I don’t mind a few hills, but 😱😱

My shorts are basically a shorter version of my cropped leggings, which are in turn a shorter version of my full length ones! All from M&S, all black, all comfy. Sorted! I just mix up my top colours to jazz them up a bit!

Happy Easter to you too, and yes by all means come down this way when you’re back from France. There are loads of parkruns to explore round here - but Eastville is my fave! ❀️
