Does anyone here run at Eastville parkrun in Bristol? My son and I are traveling over from Ireland for some parkrun tourism in October. Course 2 out of 4 on the Compass Challenge. It would be great to say hi to anyone from this forum who runs there.

Thank you Sandie. That would be great. I always read about the lovely meet ups but as I’m over here I don’t get to go. It would be great to be able to say hi to a fellow forum member.

Post the date you are coming over and I’m sure there will be others who would join a meet up!

Are you doing any in Derbyshire?

The other 2 Parkruns on the compass challenge are Northampton and Southport. We have already done Westport.

Yessss Damien! It’s my regular one. It would be fantastic to see you and your son! Do you know which weekend in October you’ll be in Bristol? I’ll make sure I’m there. 😀👍👏

Oh thank you so much Cheeky, that would be fantastic. We are flying over early on Friday the 11th of October for parkrun on the 12th. We will do some sightseeing in Bristol, visit the Zoo and the Aquarium then go to our B&B that evening. The B&B is not far from Eastville Park so it will be an easy walk for us. It would be fantastic to meet you. I just booked the flights and accommodation last night. I got a bargain. All for under €100. And Oisin is delighted and really excited with the trip and the day off School.😀

We will have to think on it but if we can arrange my birthday getaway near Bristol it may be possible. It’s in the diary to remind us.

That would be fantastic! 👍😀

I'm going to be one of the barcode scanners so I should have some time for a chat before the run.

Hopefully, there shouldn't be too many people with an Auzzie hat (no corks), goatee, sandals and yellow vest so I should be easy to recognise.

My favourite job SM! I’m doing it on the 19th. 😀 See you on Saturday. I’ll be the one with a small yellow Labrador attached to my waist! 🏃‍♀️🐕

I’ll be in a Red Milestone 50 T-Shirt and Oisin will be in a White Milestone 10 T-Shirt. Although they could be covered if rain 🌧 is knocking about. Really looking forward to it.

Great, I’ll look out for you. How about we say by the finish funnel? It’s easy to spot. I’ll be there by 8:30. I’m most recognisable by my little yellow Lab, she’ll be running around finding sticks for people to throw for her!

I’ll have my younger daughter with me too! We’ve signed up for the London Vitality 10k at the end of May and she’s starting back running again. 😀🏃‍♀️

See you in a few days! 😀

Excellent. Oisin absolutely adores dogs and will be top contender for stick throwing. See you on Saturday at the finish funnel at 8:30. We are staying in a B&B just off Fishponds road not far from Stapleton Road station. So should be just 5-10 mins from the park. We will do a quick walk to Eastville Park on Friday evening to double check.

Sounds perfect! Oh yes Oisin will have a friend for life if he throws sticks for Flossie! 🐕😀

Are you going to walk the course on Friday or keep it as a surprise for Saturday?

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply tocheekychipmunks

I’ll keep it a surprise. I just want to walk from the B&B to the Park entrance. Just so as I know the way for sure on Saturday morning. Although it looks very straight forward.

Yes it’s very close to Fishponds Rd. But I’m like you - I like to know where I’m going! 😀

We are in Southsea if you haven’t got south yet. Lots to see in Portsmouth with the historical dockyards too. A long way from Ireland, but not too far from southampton airport. In fact Southampton Common is great too and we could travel.

I’m doing it from the running challenges website. It works from your PC as a chrome extension. There are loads of different challenges. The Compass Challenge on the website takes in Westport in Ireland which we have done, Eastville, Northampton and Southport. They are the 4 parkrun events on the compass.

There is also a Pirate Challenge for

BaddieThePirate Where you have to collect 7 C’s and an R.

We don’t use google or google chrome as a search engine so I don’t think we have access to that.

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply toDexy5

You can also use Firefox on the PC or use the Firefox android app for your phone. It won’t work on Apple devices.

Mine happily filled Southsea in as my south - it doesn’t matter which south you do. But Southport may be nearer for you!

Whoops Southport is indeed better for you.

Damien hi, just before (or after) your zoo visit, it's only a few minutes walk to get to Cifton Suspension Bridge, really worth it, both you and your son will be impressed. I realise you're not driving, so another 10 minutes walk will bring you to Brandon Hill where the two or you can climb Cabot Tower and get stunning panoramic views. In fact it's en route to the Aquarium, once you have a map you'll see. Enjoy your visit! Best David

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply toPlodplod

Thank you so much David. We will definitely make a visit after the Zoo to the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the Clifton Observatory. Then we will visit Cabot Tower. Might leave the Aquarium until Saturday . Thanks so much again for your suggestions.

Damien, hi again, you’re clearly ahead of me. If the Aquarium doesn’t impress, or if you have time, try just across the water the new Industrial Museum, planes buses trans boats etc. Used to be free too!

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply toPlodplod

Did someone say planes? I’m there.😀 Thank you again.
