Exciting times! Try visualising your run to help you sleep. From lining up at the start to setting off slow, picking up the pace, then the tired legs and pushing on and finally the buzz of the finish line. It's supposed to be good for your race! I found it sends me to sleep very quickly - I hardly even get put of the starting pen, whereas otherwise I'm tossing and turning 😀. Should add that it stops working for me around the 2 or 3 sleeps to go mark though 😂. Good luck

Not my first - I did a 10k last year, and there's series of three 5k races each month from this May, locally to me. It's strange being alongside "serious" runners, but loads of fun and great to have something to aim for. My reason for starting all this was the Race For Life, when I realised that running wasn't all that bad after all!

Oh how wonderful! I’ve never thought about entering a 5k race - I just do parkrun regularly. 😀

Well in theory I’m part of a team. The company my husband works for has several participants, but I won’t be running with them as such. One or two of them are super serious runners (45 minute 10k for example 😳), but they’ll all be there to cheer me in, plus my family. 😀😀

Oh wow! So exciting, enjoy loads. When is it? I just did the Brighton 10K and I was really nervous about it. Not the running, just the crowds...but it was good and the atmosphere just pushed me along. Have you done one before? Is it a hilly one? From what I recall, Bristol has a lot of hills! Hopefully the route doesn't include to many of them.

Hi Gran4z, this will be my first ever race and I made darned sure there were no hills! Yes, Bristol is mighty hilly, but the course goes round the Harbour, under the Clifton Suspension Bridge and back, basically. Pretty much all flat. 👍

Good for you for doing Brighton. I hope you weren’t too battered by the wind? I’m also hoping the crowds will assist me as I know I won’t be fast! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Everyone reminded me, don't go out too fast, are they saying that to you? I did go out too fast. I tried to slow down, just didn't happen! Just got swept along by everything. This was my first too, what an experience. So glad yours is on the flat, mine was too - well almost, just a minor hill up and down, which I walked!! Your course sounds really nice, lovely scenery. The weather was kind, just a gentle breeze to keep us cool. Enjoy so very much, I'm excited for you.

Yours sounds wonderful! A gentle breeze is perfect, any more than that can be a hindrance.

I’ll be sure to go out nice and slow, although if running 10k in company is anything like running parkrun, I’ll definitely be swept along a bit, so I’ll be careful. 😀

I did this run last year. You'll absolutely love it!! When you run alongside the river and see all those runners coming towards you on the out and back section it's a feeling like no other. Have a wonderful time! And good luck !!!

Fab! Running whilst people are cheering you on is like nothing else cheeky, I was almost in tears when I saw the crowds of people on our 10k race, it was so emotional! You’ll love it!
