First parkrun, first 5k, who cares if it was the slowest ever?!

I've just run 5k! Can hardly believe it! On January 1st I was frightened of running for sixty seconds! Have blogged about it here welshhillsagain.blogspot.co...

Couldn't have done it without these forums and the support they give!

Thanks so much

Fantastic!

I know that part of the world my parents live in Deganwy.

The Conwy PR looks nice too... Will shout out when I visit n. Wales!

It is a great area (might be biased here). And the Bodelwyydan course is beautiful. Yes, do shout if you are in North Wales and I might look into Conwy too if I can keep going!

Thank you. One of the great things about writing about running is that I can go back and read how it was and be surprised!

This morning I was definitely up for another. Tonight I am so tired (perhaps not helped by sharing a celebratory bottle). But have my next run/crawl in the diary!

Thank you! I know it's so slow it seems daft to be so pleased but still, I did it! All the way. I really did it!

Congratulations on your first parkrun, it is rather addictive 😂

Gwenllian1Graduate10 in reply to Dexy5

Totally see that, although that first five minutes when I was practically knocked over in the rush didn't seem great! Think next time I might start right at the back!

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to Gwenllian1

Yes , a good idea to start at the back when you are new. You also get to overtake others along the way.

Thank you! I am pretty proud of myself although my knee is sore today. Assuming I need to give it a bit of a rest before I get back to it!

Fantastic! I think the whole parkrun experience is improved by volunteering so talk to your run director next Saturday or contact them by email during the week. It is possible to volunteer AND run! 😁

Well done!! I’ve just done my 4th parkrun on holiday in CapeTown yesterday. They were all zooming past me but, what the heck, I got round without walking!

That was my triumph - running the whole thing, however slowly!

Hi, well done on a massive achievement. I did my first on Christmas day last year and came in 345th out of 349. Mad as a hatter. I have not repeated that since. I am currently repeating the couch25K and am at week 6 run 3. I did nothing in February (bad weather and over-commitment to work) and am now getting back into it.

Gwenllian1 profile image
Gwenllian1Graduate10 in reply to Mercmancouchto5k

I'm impressed with having the determination to get back to it. I sort of feel that one reason to keep going is how hard it would be to start from scratch again!

Hi - it started with the excuse late January / early February that there was ice on the footpaths. We do not have a running machine at home. After that, I moved hotel at work then got tired in the evenings................................ suddenly, it was four weeks since I ran. I am finding it just as hard as first time around to keep up the couch25K but I am committed not to lose the sharpness of mind I have had since starting the run, and going on the diet.
