So after suddenly realizing it is only five and a bit weeks until the Sunderland half marathon and knowing I am nowhere near ready I have decided its time to get some serious training in.
Began tonight with a nice post work 8k. As I set off it was still fairly light, my route took me past Brunswick, down through Wideopen and then skirting north of Big Waters nature reserve before heading back home.
The first 5k went really well, just under 33 minutes but I was hampered for the last 3k as I was suddenly on unlit country tracks and the light seemed to fail quite suddenly. So I had to slow and make sure I didn't trip or step in a rut.
I did however see a bat and hear a Tawny Owl.
Will head out again in a couple of days and before Sunderland I also have the Blyth and North Tyneside 10ks so I guess there is still time to be ready.
Run happy, run safe.

Clocks change this weekend Chris!😉...well done on a cracking 8, you are a strong runner and will manage it all in your stride I'm sure. Happy running to you. 😊xx
It can be quite funny though, it drops dark like in an instant and you find yourself in the country with no light from anywhere, and you're left blundering in the dark, berating yourself but tittering. Or is that just me
An owl and a bat makes it all worthwhile. I think both would make me step on the gas
Have fun with the rest of your training and all the very best for the big day!
