Please come over and have a look at the new invigorated Strength and flex forum.

One You (NHS Choices). Would like us to move every day with a variety of cardio, strength and stretches to keep us as fit as we can be.

Running every day is possible but it is so very hard on the body and not recommended for everyone, it doesn’t help us keep our fitness rounded so as we progress we all tend to look for something else. Some (or maybe it is just me 😀) have trouble with the motivation for this.

I will be honest it took me five years and finding a challenge that worked for me to religiously do my strength and stretch work weekly during my endurance training season. I need to work towards something and have motivation to make it work.

For me it was the RED or move every day in January that got me going. I then found I had a fellow motivator in Unfitnomore (the newest administrator/ motivator on S&F) since then we have been supporting each other and are working towards move every day in 2019.

This the scope of things One You/HNS recommends you could try on your days off running.

We are hoping to get little clubs within the S&F forum to support sports like cycling, gym, swimming, yoga, Pilates and a variety of exercises, but we need you!

These forums work because we talk, share, encourage and motivate, we need founding members to get the ball rolling, so please if you could help get us started I would really appreciate some help getting posts up on different spots and activities.

There will be badges and challenges to work towards as well. There s a new challenge starting April 1st.

Look forward to seeing what other exercises you get up too

I was on a rest day...so took a peek and did the beginners aerobic workout video ( been a few years since I've done keep fit to music) 💃

It was great. Thank you for posting this Rfc, feeling motivated now! 😊xxx

I haven’t done aerobics for years either, I’m looking forward to trying some of them.

Great to hear you’ve recruited UnfitNoMore as a mentor. He’s been brilliant on c25k with the newbies. I’ll be checking out the forum rfc. Good luck with it.

I’m going over to take a look. Good timing because I want to do more strength and stretching and less long road runs. I like the idea of trail running and this should help

During C25K I alternated run and workout days but took the occasional couch day, which I thought was good for the soul... then came REDJanuary and you suggested February too... and I’m feeling even better than I did with a couch day. I’m also embracing the “sit less” message in between activities and have reduced from a one hour maximum sit to 30 minutes, which seems to be helping me recover from all of the workouts. Of course anyone reading who knows Glossop will tell you that the traffic here can conspire against these good intentions... I just spent 2 hours driving home from Stockport... starting at 8pm and travelling 13 miles, on a Friday night... crazy.

Today I did 3 workouts on Nike Training Club. 15 minutes “Joint Mission” that was on my running plan... then 20 minutes of “Tank Top Arms”. Lunch, housework and a short yoga session “Run Ready Yoga” before I went out. I was going to get another one in to get me up to the hour for the day, but now I’m settling for lifting 🍷 for an hour!

A new target came into my head on the way home... HM faster than I drove it tonight 😂

Hi, I’ve just found this and I am trying to do something on my rest days. I used to go to Pilates about 6 miles away from where I live because I knew the instructor well. But then she had a baby and kept cancelling classes and I’d have struggle through traffic for nearly 40 mins sometimes in the summer and get there to find it had been cancelled so I stopped.

Then another friend who I did Pilates with years before started up her studio and I rejoined. It was still a trek to go to it but she does the Franklin Method and is very into what you eat and drink and she is a shining example of how we would all like to look- glowing with health - so I carried on and got way more flexible and FELT really good in myself. But it was still expensive to go as many times as I would have liked.

Then she discovered she was pregnant and had a brainwave about setting up an online studio. All the sessions are recorded, we did watch some live but now can access them all when we want, there are workouts for specific areas, relaxation exercises, mindfulness, recipes and a Facebook group. I pay £14 a month and can login whenever I want and do a couple of 15 or 30 or 40 min sessions and I find I do this now whenever I get a free bit of time. She has clients from all over the world and is always on hand to answer questions and offer advice and specific exercises to help any problem areas I might have( even though she now has a 3 year old and a new baby).

Sorry to ramble but just to say for instance yesterday I did a 20 minute Flexible Spine session, a 30 minute Strong Abs with the Foam Roller session and a 20 minute Colon Workout. All in the comfort of my own home but with Rachael talking me through it all and demonstrating on my iPad

Hi there please come on over to S&F. We have a very supportive group there. We help each other with the motivation as most of us find the work we are supposed to do to help our running very hard, so we have weekly, monthly and long term goals and challenges. We would love to see you on there.
