I've been struggling to reach 5k recently due to fatigue after moving house, and almost all my runs have been under 4k. This was worrying me, as I have a 15k race next month and two half marathons later in the year. Oldfloss gave me a very supportive pep talk, on the March challenge thread, which inspired me and made me feel less worried. So this morning I woke at 5.30 and decided today was the day to try to push on a bit further. The wind has dropped from a howling gale to a stiff breeze for the first time in two weeks, so that helped, as did the fact it was a beautiful, bright, golden-rosy morning.

My pace has been a couple of minutes a kilometre slower than before we moved, but I decided to try to slow right down to beat the fatigue - though when i looked at the end of the run, it was about the same as all my recent runs ... but I did start off a bit slower and end up faster.

I'm still getting to know the routes round here and explored a cycle track that led me onto a road that ran parallel to the bypass. Not a car in sight, but I was startled by a terrific thundering noise behind me. A moment later a bloke zoomed past me, running at about twice my speed (beefcake Mummycav Bevlar!).

I found myself out near the A34, then curving back into the town, and finished along the river Ock. Abundant signs of spring: daffs, violets, celandine, blackthorn. So I have runners high for the first time in weeks, and feel rejuvenated and much more confident.

Moving does that! It will pass. 👍

Yeah, I’m coming out the other side at last. I did all the packing and cleaning -over 40 boxes!

Aargh. I’m exhausted just hearing about it. After our last move, I said “never again” - and I’ve stuck to it so far, though the memory has faded....

So pleased for you Flick, now you have your confidence back. There is no doubt you are a strong runner.

That sounds like a perfect run, starting slowly, relaxing and finishing stronger.. spring flowers in abundance, bright skies and with added Beefcake!

And 7.75k 💥 No wonder you feel brilliant..you are! 😊xxx

in reply to Bluebirdrunner

Aw thanks 😊 The move really took it out of me emotionally and physically. I need to remember sometime that I’m an OAP and won’t bounce back as quickly as I did in my youth xxx

Sounds great Flick! Well done for getting back out there. Sometimes life events make it more difficult to prioritise squeezing in a run or having enough energy for a run but you’ll get back into it regularly again hopefully now your move is over. 👍🏻😊xx

in reply to AllyS

Thank you 😊I was back to running nearly every day, but mostly short runs. It’s such a relief to get a decent distance in and realise the 15k race is doable x

Sounds like a good run Flick. And I’m glad you enjoyed it. My run today was a technological disaster but a really good run, so glad I went 😁

in reply to limberlou

Ohh no, a technological disaster would have crushed me - I’m such a geek. I forgot to start my watch till I’d run 1k yesterday and it annoyed me for the rest of the day!

Yes I know I’m still seething. I forgot to press mine till I’d run for 11 and half minutes and then it died part way round so I have no real idea what I actually ran today. And I like to see if I’ve got faster 🤣🤣 not..usually

Ah, I feel for you!

Another great collage from the camera lady. We are still watching the Daffs up here.

You'll soon develop those flatland muscles. ☺ Moving house is the worst thing.

Take care in the snow and ice.

in reply to theoldfellow

Thank you. Yes I’m getting more used to the flatness now 😊🏃‍♀️

Snow was a brief thing and now gone I’m

Pleased to say!

Yay you’re back 😀🏃🏼‍♀️. Moving house and settling takes so much time and energy. I still have boxes in my garage and I daren’t say how long ago it was I moved 😂. And getting used to new routes takes time too. Fab run Flick. 😀

We have two dogs and two cats - it took two weeks to clean the house and pack and i did most of it. Then moving day was fraught. Never again - mind you, i said that less than two years ago, so who knows!
