Personal messages, A rouge member is being annoying. Please help us to sort it out.

There is a rouge member who is messaging women on our forum, asking them personal information. As soon as Healthunlocked get the heads up they are on the case. This one bypasses the admins on here because of personal data issues, so please report anything you are uncomfortable with. We think it is one person signing up multiple times and we are doing all we can to sort this out.

If you get a personal message you are uncomfortable with report it. If you have never messaged with the person before there is a very distinct box at the top of the message to report.

If you have messaged with the person there are three little dots to the bottom right of the message and you can report it there.

We put these messages out every now and then because as admins we don’t get a report of abuse from the messages they go directly to Healthunlocked but due to privacy issues they can not act unless a report has been made.

Basically you have to invite them to look at the message and then deal with it.

It is very rare it is needed but just to let you know it is always there.

Rfc x

I had a message from Michaels305. Never heard of him, never contacted him so didn’t respond.

Or it may be a genuine error. Hope it all gets sorted.

With respect, Ladies in particular, do be careful of posting "clues" for creeps.

A route map that shows you start and finish outside your home.

A Race Bib with your number - easily cross referenced to your name in online results.

Saying you will be on your own at an upcoming event paired with your photo.

Also be aware that a photo posted online can be searched for to see if it's on another site - for instance FB. If you post it twice, it can be tracked. If you do post it twice, you may want to slightly edit it in paintbox or the like second time around so it's not a perfect match.

I wish it were not so, but it's a far too "connected" world now and true privacy is over.

I sincerely hope I'm not coming across as being patronising or chauvinistic. That is absolutely not my intent. It is, however, a fact that there is less fear of consequences these days among predators and I've seen the result in some cases. That and seeing how easy it would be to ID and/or locate some members through some posts here

( though its not anything like the insanity of FB posts and the like) is my only motivation. Be safe and don't let the creeps spoil things for you.

Thank you for the gentle reminder Irish-John , not everyone has grown up with the cautions we need to use the internet as It is now so it helps to have these discussions to make us all aware of how much information we give out and share and how to look out for ourselves.

Very glad it was received in the spirit I intended :)

I think its great to raise awareness.

I read a post on here not long ago.

Someone was looking for a running buddy in the area.

Someone replied..... they arranged to meet, the time, day, destination all there on a public forum.

It really worried me, all that day and for sometime after I hoped that

1. They were both genuine.

2.That someone didn't turn up.pretending to be one of them...

Posting routes, areas, times, call me cynical, overly cautious , it gives me the willies. 😬

We do try and urge caution with things like that, like you it worries me too. then on the other side at the big events I meet up with members from here and have made some really good friends. It is a fine line. It is a very different thing meeting up with someone with 1,000’s of people there. There is no way I would meet up with someone who has just come on the forum looking for running buddies. I always try and find their nearest Parkrun and send them a link if I see it. That way safety in numbers and groups of runners are safer.

Blimey John, I didn't know that about photos, thanks for the info.

Also I've read it's not a good idea to post photos of your race number before a race because people can copy them apparently.

It's so difficult these days to guard your privacy I, and a lot of people I know, basically give up. If someone out there is really wanting to find you, they will. However before anyone gets TOO nervous, it's like the "Armoured Car Scenario" :)

Briefly - unless you crew an AC with complete morons or let a Crim slip through the vetting process (which makes you the moron), the only way it's going to be taken in a heist (real world, not those silly Hollywood fantasies) is by a superbly professional criminal crew.

IF that happens, you'll be trussed in the back of an empty AC before you even know you're being hit :)

The pro's know the difference between ten to twenty for Armed Robbery and the Needle.

So, the only realistic worry you have is for some nutjob idiot, junkie, gangbanger yo, "Dead Presidents" fan, or a combination of all those, trying to take out the Courier between the Car and the Drop.

It doesn't happen for many reasons - because you don't make it easy for them :)

Same with privacy these days. It's never going to be total - but you sure as heck needn't make it easy for the amateurs to find you :)

Not wanting to upset y'all any further - but my Lord! Those genealogy sites are an ID Thief's best friend - and also, you might be laying low but if a close family member is active on them, good luck.

However, Life is for living - and Running - so can't be too careful at that end of the spectrum either or we'd never go out the door :)

And obviously meet ups in 2020. 😀.

Oh yes :)

It will be fun putting faces to the names :)

I'm going to suggest we find some fun way to do that there as an ice breaker :) Some of us are known from photos - but some not :) Another thing to discuss in due time :)
