I experienced my first club run on Wednesday night. A bunch of raving lunatics rocketing around down footpaths and across the fields, in the dark, wearing head torches! I joined the slow group who were taking a flat trail along the canal, round the reservoir and looping back round the fields to the top of the village. From door to door I clocked 10k, but a leisurely 10k. Lots of stopping to wait while we all got over stiles, through kissing gates, across 1 busy road, across a railway line and most scarily a gateway, which is clearly used by cattle during the day. Churned up with mud and water the uneven ground was a bit nerve racking (as was the ploughed field) as I could feel my ankles just itching to turn over. It’s a whole new ball game when you can’t see where you’re feet are landing. A surreal experience, would I recommend it? Not sure. Will I go again next Wednesday? Just try and stop me!
