Valentines 10k on Newcastle town moor, a good run, a brilliant day and if it hadn't been for that gusting headwind....

So my first race of the year today just a few miles down the road on Newcastles Town moor. As I sat drinking a coffee and looking out the window the weather looked lovely, almost like a spring morning however when I ventured out it became obvious that there was a nasty wind gusting up to maybe 20mph.

I got parked and walked down to pick up my race number. There was already a lot of activity as the 5k race was due off half an hour before mine.

We lined up at the start bang on time at 10.45, I was near the front and looking back I guessed at an entry of about 500 (still waiting on the race result E Mail). Of we went and as expected I was passed by a lot of the quicker runners within about 400 yards!!!, however I settled into a really good rhythm and got to half way just under 31 minutes. I was hoping to beat my PB of 1.03.13 at that point but that damn wind absolutely did for me over the last 3km and I finished in 1.03.51, my second fastest time over the distance. As always at these events there was a great atmosphere both before and after and it's only 2 weeks until my next one at Dalton Park.

Run happy, run safe.

Well done! I'm still chasing that sub 1 hour 10k. It's getting closer! 😸

I know, problem is those last 3 or so minutes are the hardest.
