This is the same run recorded tonight. The one on the right is mine. I have a Garmin watch and my sister, run on the left, used Runkeeper. According to this she ran over 2k more than me! Her route is bizarre! And inaccurate! She's claiming this as her PB 5k ha ha!!
The same run! Beware technology! π€ͺπ€ͺπ€ͺπ€ͺποΏ½... - Bridge to 10K

Did you not notice her darting in and out of bushes? π€£π€£π€£ itβs like a drunkards run π₯΄
That is exactly the same as when I run with my friend her Strava has us running a minute faster per km than my Garmin watch! ππ

Unless you have a professional time keeping device like the ones used by the BBC. for the likening of The London Marathon or the Great North Run all other timeing devices like a Garmon Watch, Strava, Run keeper or Mapmyrun must take all times and pace as approximate, the example above is a good example of that, a difference of two K for the same run is ridiculous.
Yay for Runkeeper and sisters. I have no doubt hers is spot on....π.

UpTheStanley and I can be running next to each other and our Garmins have us running on different routes! Glad to see your sister is back running again.

I know Ang....get runkeeper!! Looks exciting!! π€£π€£π€£! Good on you both! You were out there doing your thing and thatβs what matters most! β€οΈ

Oh wow, thatβs some discrepancy Ang! π π
I always use Garmin and MMR independently of each other, and I run until they both record the distance Iβm after. The funny thing is, they alternate! Tech eh? π©π π€¦ββοΈ

I always have my Garmin and mapmyrun on the phone for backup. Yesterday MMR was about 2k short! The routemap was just a triangle - as if it only picked up one gps point between start and finish. My garmin map was perfect. Very odd!
My Garmin maps are always perfect. It's quite a built up area. Must have affected the signal...!
Early on in my running Strava recorded me running my usual route perfectly well for weeks, and then one day showed me running in zigzags through the fields. That's when I decided to get the Garmin. Even that has let me down on occasions, but not quite that way.
I suspect the GPS in a phone is much more influenced by other things going on, like messages and emails arriving and needing processing, sending your movements to the misgovernment㪠etc., etc.., and sometimes just gets lost.

That track appears to be locking onto WiFi hotspots. If the device can be switched to GPS only the tracks would be much more accurate, I suggest. I use Runkeeper on my phone in rural Devon alongside a GPS watch and they are generally very consistent but both can give erratic readings on occasions.

Iβve found that using both MMR and Garmin covers all bases- MMR gives splits and a more detailed, accurate route, then Garmin adds in cadence and heart rate. And if the gps fails on either one then thereβs a backup.
Blimey!! I use run tracker, but might look into run keeper if it makes me look like iβve done more!! Glad sis is back and hope youβre both keeping well. πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
