I read a very interesting article over lunch today (no kids at home now, I’m allowed to read at the table there were even elbows involved on same table) regarding fitness shaving decades off your biological age 🙂 Gavin is an 82 year old who runs/walks 40 minutes 3 times a week and does strengthening and flexibilty exercises in his garage (single leg squats and planking) Gavin says even if you’re well into retirement, don’t shrink from vigorous exercise. In searching the internet for advice on how much running I should be doing at 80 plus, I found none. But I did find this commensense encouragement from a sports minded doctor. “If a well loved form of exercise does provoke sudden death in an 80 year old, this is a more pleasant end than many alternative ways of dying.”
Lovely attitude eh? and Tbae you probably have a biological age of 26. Happy gowing younger everyone. 🤓

Tbae does have a biological age of 26, I showed a friend of mine Tbae's exercise regime, he thought he was some 25-year-old training for the Olympics but when I told my friend that Tbae was a 75-year-old very fit man he gasped OMG, he is really fit.
Thank you very much Lexi6, my exercise regime is much more modest than Tbae's. Yes I do loads of walking, yoga, planking, some push and sit ups and have a pair of kettle bells and have cycled since I was 7. Running is fairly new to me, but compaired to Tbae I am sticking to to the 5K distance, not 10K or HM.
She's fearless. When she was in her late 70's she chased an armed robber down the street while everyone else stared and did nothing! Sadly she didn't catch him but he must have been surprised to see an old lady on his heels 😂😂
Fantastic Lexi! Yes we’re getting older, but I’m intending to keep using what I do have instead of reminiscing over what used to be. And I’m some cases, what I can do now, I couldn’t do before, that’s a great way to make you feel good about getting older! 😂❤️
Excellent! All the benefits as before including the lovely feeling that lasts for hours after running and now I’m getting younger too ... I’m off to do some planks 😃
Our man Alan our Gardner, cyclist and runner is inspiritational.Done it all his life and gardening can be hard on the five main muscle groups of the body.
I did find something Lexi, I think I googled something like how much daily and weekly running should we do.
At the time I had just started trotting daily, once per day for a month inspired by our JuJu and then twice per day on my rationale of little and often for another month.Within that month a reset week of around 20 km / week not 63 km/ week or 49 km’s / week.
Sorry gone off, for me it recommended no more than 7 k/ day.At the time I read the article I was doing 4.5k x 2 / day and 63 k / week.
But Lexi I am trotting at a very slow pace,so the loading at 9-10 mins / km on your body is very minimal. Its my go all day pace and we were born to run all day. It’s in our genes. Personally I am not too precious about that rule. There is other stuff I am passionate about. We can do anything we wish to do.👊💥
Actually morbidably🤔
I think the article was, too much running is as bad as too little.🤔
I want to say Lexi, for no other reason other than if it helps someone make running/ brisk walking / trotting their life.
I have made an arthritic condition psuedo gout dormant since taking up trotting one year ago.
I suffered an aneurysm 28 years ago, behind one eye, that left me blind in one eye and hearing impaired on the same side.
I have no cartilage in one knee removed over 55 years ago, so an odd leg.
So although I have lost some stuff on the way, I am no spring chicken, but I do think like one.I still want to fly with sensible and modest adaption.
Sorry gone off on one Lexi.
Lexi there are ladies and gents still doing it in their 90’s and yes 100’s
They are on the internet.👍👏👏
Go you Lexi, enjoy it all and pamper the greatest gift that we all are given, listen to it, know the guide lines and also modestly ignore them for little spells 🤔
And watch your body respond by strengthing your heart, lungs, joints, muscles , etc to allow you to respond to your goals and dreams.
Decker posted a link, 2-3 months ago, huge study, millions of people over decades, conclusion one hours running, seven hours of life.
Pinkvaardark, another link, medical research, Get Fit in 6 mins, unbelievable 20-25 min video.
I cannot believe the links on this magical forum.About the repair power of our bodies and the in built protection and just how clever a piece of kit we have got.
I am so boring now,obsessed , possessed, passionate, but I don’t care anymore.🙈
I’d certainly rather pass away doing something active I love than by many other options.
For us females, running is also highly recommended as we get older to help maintain bone density. I had my first bone density scan recently, which flagged up low bone density, and when the GP wanted to discuss lifestyle changes she was delighted to find I was now running HM distance, and said that was the best thing I could do to slow down losses due to genetics / hormones. 😊❤️
MD you’re a machine! My late mum had osteopororis (hmm !) spelling? loathed exercise, Don’t want to follow in her footsteps, so am embracing exercise. Love reading your posts. Keep on doing what you’re doing. 👍
Apparently they recommend things like press-ups for upper body too, to help with bone density, Lexi. I’ve osteopenia, which means I’m not as bad as osteoporosis yet.
The uk GPs recommend vitD and calcium tablets to help slow down further deterioration (and I figure drinking a pint of milk a day can’t hurt, if you’re trying to limit problems).
My Mum had osteoporosis too, and the UK dish out nasty tablets at that point to try to boost bone calcium levels. As these things do tend to be genetic, our running will help, but I’m not sure it will stop us both from developing it at some point. ❤️
I have loads to look forward to? Mum seemed to have everything going wrong with her. She was minus a kidney, had coronaries, a stent etc. it was a miracle she made it to 86. I’ve just told my daughter to get a bone density scan and trying to talk her into stopping smoking and starting to exercise. She was the kid hiding behind bushes fagging at cross country. ☹️
