❄️Mad woman in the snow!❄️

Before I started this running malarkey back in April, I would have seen a woman in her early 60s dressed in fluorescent pink jacket, headband (covering headphones) and lycra jogging along a disused railway line in a January blizzard and thought “Now she really is a nutter!”

But hey, I’m a runner now, it wasn’t actually snowing when I set out and I was determined to complete my 6K run of Ju-Ju’s 10K plan today! And I did it!

Good luck to everyone on the Magic Plan - not the best time of year to be embarking on it, but the winter’s been kind to us so far.......

Roll on spring. 🌷 xx

Weii done Cazz26, you are not a nutter, congratulations on completing your 6K run, many places in UK, including where I am in Scotland have seen there first decent snowfall of the winter today.

Thanks Al. Feeling good to have completed it now I’m sitting with a sandwich and a cuppa!

Hope the snow doesn’t disrupt your plans, running or otherwise.

I dont run or cycle much during the winter, instead I go long walks and short runs just to keep my legs mobile for longer runs in the spring, last year I waited until the second part of April before I began C25K.

Very sensible, I’d say!

It’s so funny how we change through this programme. Like you I thought runners were mad at times. Great news on 6k today. The weeks are flying by as are you 😊

Yes, you’re right! Don’t recognise myself sometimes. Just read your earlier post - well done on your first 10K recently and I now know that if the going gets tough, I’ll just invest in a new bra! 😂

I know who would have thought 😀. Yay to new bras.

I catch myself thinking 'wtf?' sometimes too.

I stayed at my sister's over Christmas, and since starting C25K in the summer I've been eyeing up the Common in her village as a good place for a run, so on Boxing Day, I went out to run there. It was freezing cold and damp though, and knackered my breathing so I only managed about 15 minutes - and I was really, really irritated. The previous year I'd have been grateful for the excuse to stop, even assuming I'd got out there in the first place.

Cazza26 profile image
Cazza26Graduate10 in reply toFenderTelecaster

Yep - I can relate to that! Funny how you look at places in a different light now - “eyeing them up” as you say as potential running routes! Bonkers. 🤪

Well done with the 6k! . . . don't worry, you are not alone, there's another early 60's running nutter here 😂😂

Cazza26Graduate10 in reply toorangeguy

Hehe!! It’s great, though, don’t you think? My only regret is that I didn’t discover running years ago! But there’s plenty more running years in us yet.... 🏃‍♀️ 🏃

orangeguy profile image
orangeguyGraduate10 in reply toCazza26

Yes I love it, similar age family and friends think I'm a little crazy though 😂

Cazza26 profile image
Cazza26Graduate10 in reply toorangeguy

Yes, a mixture of reactions. Some are full of admiration and get it, others are less enthusiastic and probably think we’re doing our ageing bodies untold harm! Whereas we know it’s quite the reverse!

I’ve never felt better.

orangeguyGraduate10 in reply toCazza26

Yes, I generally get the "you'll damage your knees" type stuff a lot, as you say its a myth and the reverse is true.

Another 62 year old here! How did running do this to us! During my first 9km I became absolutely drenched. Did I get upset? No just giggled my way home! Well done on your 6km and all the best with your onward running journey! 🏃‍♀️❄️

😂 Well I’m 62 and trying.... to get to that 10K! Hope I manage some giggles along the way.

Thanks - and good luck too!

Lol! Giggles and running are a good combination! 😊

Nutters, the lot of us! 😀😀 And isn’t it fabulous? I was lucky this morning as it was sunny and cold for my 6k and even though my legs were tired (bad hydration I think), I was still pleased with my time. Having said that, I’d still have run if it had been lashing down, in fact I enjoy being caught in the rain. Not so much having to warm up in it, but I haven’t bailed yet! 💦🏃‍♀️💦🏃‍♀️💦

I also eye up the suitability of places to run and I know I’m going to have to get some trail shoes soon. 😈

Happy running Cazza, enjoy your journey to 10k! 😀

Thanks cc! Yes, I guess we learn as we go along - my hands were freezing for most of the run today, so I think I need warmer running gloves. Hard to imagine I started C25K at the start of that glorious spell of weather last year. Still, it’s a great excuse to buy new stuff as we go along (like new trail shoes!)

Me too, I started C25K in June and graduated in August, so pretty much did the whole programme during the heatwave, including a couple of weeks running in Bavaria which was hotter still! 🥵🥵🥵

I didn’t enjoy the heat at the time, but I wouldn’t mind some of it now 🥶🥶😅😅

Well done cazza, the brighter the Lycra, the better.

Running along a disused railway track sounds perfectly rational. Even in a blizzard 😁

Keep up the good work It’ll be spring before you know it 😃👍🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🐣🌷🌝

Yay thanks! Spring seems a long way off at the moment.... lots more snow this evening. ⛄️

Well done. I did the slowest 5k ever - gingerly avoiding slushy patches in case I slipped and fell. But hey I was out there - I’ll call it a recovery run 😁

Cazza26 profile image

Well done on getting out there!

Every slow slushy run counts!

Great post Cazza, I’m sure most of us on this forum can relate to this feeling in some way ...not necessarily the ‘woman in her early 60s dressed in fluorescent pink jacket‘ bit ...but you know what I mean! 😁

Huge well done on your snowy 6K, keep ticking them off ...ju-ju’s plan works! ⚡️

The good thing about winter running is how much fitter you’ll be in the spring, you’ll be hopping about with the bunnies!

Agelesslass profile image

Well the nuttier we are the happier we are. I’m 65 and love to run. I did C25k in the heatwave of last summer too, I had a cracking sun tan and loved it. Well done Cazza26.

Thanks Ageless! Inspired by all these Graduate 10s in their 60s - think it’s my turn this year. 🤞🏻

My journey sounds like yours (start date and age anyway!) and I know EXACTLY what you mean. Only difference I’m still just pottering around 5k - despite one unplanned 6 and one 7 - but I’ve been ill and not eating, so not been out for nearly 2 weeks 😱. Hats off to you - I’ll be out joining you again as soon as I’ve the energy.

Cazza26 profile image
Cazza26Graduate10 in reply toSybilw

Good luck, Sybil. Hope you get your mojo back soon and make that step up! We can do this!
