Hello everyone
I hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year!
I thought I would provide an update on my injury woes. I finally managed to start running again in early November and because I had had such a long time off, I thought it would be best to start from scratch, so I decided to start C25K again. And this time, I asked my children to join me... After much persuasion, my son, whose now 11, agreed to complete the course with me, we are now on Week 7 and progressing well.
The vast majority of the advice I have received from this forum is to run more slowly and running with my son has helped me do that, so rather than running 5:00 minutes /KM pace, we now run at 5:45 - 6:00 minutes /KM, which has made a huge difference. On the odd occasion when I have run on my own, I do speed up, but have managed to maintain a 5:30 - 5:40 minutes/KM pace.
I think my achilles/calf problems all stem from having extremely tight hamstrings, now I stretch my calves and hamstrings before and after running, which does seem to be helping. I am also icing my knees up to 3 times a day, this is definitely helping with the patella tendon issues! Gawd I sound like I am falling apart!
I have also discovered that when you aren't pushing yourself to the limit and gasping for breath, I can enjoy the run even more!
So hopefully barring injury I plan to rejoin the Bridge to 10K in a few weeks time.
Happy running!
V.
