well I did it, i managed to finish the year off on a strong note. I didn’t think I was going to but a trip to the doctors between Christmas and New Year gave me my answer. My thyroid meds were really out, change of dose and I am firing on all cylinders again. I hadent really realised how far down I had got. I hoping for a strong year this year.

Wishing you all a happy healthy year

I completed it! I finished the Magic 10 and ran 10k for the 2nd time on Boxing Day, proudly shaving more than 5 minutes off my previous 10k time. 👍😀🏃‍♀️

And I’ll be doing it all again because I’ve signed up for 3 races already this coming year! Bring on 2019! 👍💪🏃‍♀️👊😀

Great News, well done on knocking 5 mins of your time as well. those races will keep you on your toes Rfc x

I've been following a Jeff Galloway plan to try to improve my speed. Lots of interval training, as you'd expect.

Last week I ran 5k for the first time in 5 weeks, and took 2.5 minutes off my PB.

I'm hoping to improve even more, but I'd call that a result!

in reply toTartancat

Impressive. Where did you find that plan please? Thanks

It's actually on my Garmin! You tell it what your target time is for 5k, do a benchmark run, and it works out a training plan from your stats. It's seriously impressive, and seems to be working!

Amazing TC! I hope you’ve surrendered any snails you might have been holding onto! You’re turning into a proper gazelle. 👍🏃‍♀️👏

Oh Lord no, I still love the snails! I'm not aiming for a sub 30 - I'll be happy with sub 35. And doing this plan means I haven't run more than 6k for 6 weeks, so it'll be interesting to see if it makes a difference to my 10k time (or even if I'll still be able to do 10k).

This running malarkey keeps creating new targets for me. Loving it!

It’s fascinating isn’t it? So much fun seeing what we can do. 💪

I’m glad you’re not leaving Club Snail btw. 😅🐌👊

I am a big Jeff Galloway fan. I seemed to of settled on 45/30 second splits, it seems to suit me the best and give me the better speed (well for me anyway). Great result, glad you are enjoying it. Rfc x

Im still getting to grips with the intervals - the programme keeps mixing them up, sometimes concentrating on cadence, sometimes on distance. But it's definitely working!

Managed to finish the year and start new year running regularly. Didn’t do so well on the Pilates during the holiday season.

in reply toO505k

Well done !

To of kept going over Christmas is an achievement, well done, you can always catch up with the Pilates. Rfc x

My Pilates and weight training classes are starting back tomorrow - Yay! So I'll do at least 2 this week. I did a nice 6km yesterday on a frosty, sunny morning. I enjoyed it. I hope to do a long run next weekend when I visit my sister. I think my January quest might be just to enjoy the cold weather runs and not to put too much pressure on myself. When I do that, I tend to lose my mojo :(

It is so easy to put too much pressure on ourselves, I know about 3/4 into a HM training plan I just have to have a fun weeks running as it starts to take away from my enjoyment all the regime. Your January sounds great Rfc x.

Just two 10k runs in December and plenty of mince pies....😉

Pleased with my runs, I wasn't expecting to fit much running in, but I hardly turned down any mince pie opportunities!

They were lovely though😄xxx

in reply toBluebirdrunner

Ooh 😮 two 10kms. I’m impressed. I bet they burnt off at least 50 mince pies 🥧

Im pretty sure I didn't manage 50!😄

Thanks though Paula😊xx

in reply toBluebirdrunner

Only 50 weeks to the next mince pie. I hope everyone at work is on a diet tomorrow. I’ve had enough chocolates 🤢

Oh it's all the eating just because it's there that is so awful. If they were all lovely they were all worth it!

I do love a mince pie. I purposely didn't buy any in this year, then we went to a bakery where my friend works and she gave me 6 really posh lovely ones to come home with me, well I just had to eat them, it would of been rude not too. 2x 10km runs over the Christmas period is still going some, well done.

Thanks Rfc😊...some of mine where those posh ones too!

We're worth it!😁xxx

We were treated to 2 parkruns a week over Christmas and new year and so volunteered on 29th December as a thank you to our organisers. A new PB on NYD came as a surprise! I’ve jumped back on to the magic plan, so now I’ve just got to get back to Pilates at the gym.

Sounds like you have really got involved in your local Park Run, I bet the are really glad to have you on board helping out. Well done on your PB. Rfc x.

I’ve done 10 volunteer stints and 26 runs. Some of those are on the same day such as sorting tokens after the race. It is quite a high percentage but whenever I can’t run due to IC or because I’m running the next day, I volunteer. I just love being involved. I know it is a choice but I’m appalled that some people have never helped out even though they’ve gained 50 or 100 run T-shirts.

Pretty successful considering but a mixed bag.

Weight was a fraction above where I started... did go down quite a bit before that.

Running... I only managed 1 instead of 8

Advent Fitness Calendar - well, I enjoyed putting the medal together but I am moving those challenges forward to this month

Yoga - only did half the number of practices I aimed for (six), but did incorporate standing poses into four so that was a goal achieved, and I did an online class, another goal.

BUT ta da, ta da, ta da... after four and a half years I completed my Virtual Swim of the River Derwent from source to Derwent Mouth where it joins the Trent (which it turns out is A Very Long Way). A lovely Christmas present to myself even though I did the final swim hairy legged, in my old cozzie, with no spectators and no fundraising in place, the swimming website took down all the maps and data just before I got there. It was almost as good as graduating from C25K!

Congratulations on completing your virtual swim, I know that has meant a lot to you to get to the end. Looking at all you achieved over the Christmas period I would be happy with getting all that done if it was me, well done.

All that and my Dad's butt healed (the other nurses and ex-nurses will know how very important that is to the ever been a nurse ego!) Not that he was at all grateful for being made to stand up and move about regularly!
