Having hopped on and off and back on DebJogsOn Christmas streak (had 2 days off due to work commitments), I set out this morning with a longish run on my mind. However I just thought I would wait to see how I felt. Went off nice and slow and felt quite strong. A very engaging book in my ears and one of my favourite routes.
It feels like mid winter right now, cold and stony grey. Tucked my hands into my sleeves at the start; I knew I would soon warm up. At 4k, I decided to go for it and I completed 10k, which I haven't done for a while.
The wind picked up on the way home, making my eyes smart and my nose run. The second half of the run was somewhat quicker than the first, despite being somewhat uphill. There were people out shooting, which my dog cannot abide. He wanted to run off home so I put him on the running lead. Every shot that was fired, led to a little turbo boost. Despite this my friend's son came powering past me at a rate of knots; all long legs and youthful vigour.
Have had a soak in the bath and used a Christmas bath bomb (it really was lush); so I am now much more fragrant than when I got home, sweaty with snot all up my sleeve
Happy with that and thanks to Deb for letting me hitch a lift!
Fantastic Helen!! That sounds like an amazing run!! Never mind the young’ens! With their tremendous speed!! 😂! The greatest thing is you being out there too! Just brilliant! 🤩🤩🤩👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Ooh I had a celebratory bath with a Christmas bath ball too today! Fantastic! ❤️
Way to go Helen! Sounds like the sort of run I'd love to do tomorrow - though in what I have now decided is an unwritten rule of streaking (if you see what I mean), I'll wait and see how I feel in the moment.
It's certainlybeen great to hear of you enjoying your ministreak in parallel 😁. I feel sad mine is coming to an end - but have already earmarked Easter for another go!
Great running... it’s certainly gloves weather now I think! Not run past our local shoots yet, that could be interesting. Well done getting back to 10k. Happy running.
I’m very impressed, Helen! Sounds like one of those lovely runs, too. Well done on streaking...it does sound like a very interesting change to make if things start to feel routine. I’m still feeling a bit poorly so not running, but went for a long stomp through the woods today. Freezing cold and so grey, as you say, but I still found some beauty in it. Running has made me appreciate the seasons and being outdoors so much more! Might try a little jog out tomorrow, you have inspired me. 😘
Thanks Sadie. I agree that running plants one firmly in the season and I like running in the winter. If you feel better, a little light jog might be just the ticket- take it easy
Sounds like a fab run, snot and all. I don’t like the shooting either. I live in hunting country so there is always someone chasing foxes or shooting things round here, or surplus pheasants running all over the road during pheasant shooting season.
Nothing like a fragrant bath to round things off x

A surfeit of snot is often a sign of a proper run in my view. Are you missing your streak or is it nice to have more flexibility?
• in reply to
I’m missing my streak and wishing I’d carried on ☹️ I did a 6k run yesterday, after 4 days rest, and felt knackered, and without the motivation I’m finding it harder to make myself go out and run while it’s so cold 😢

How interesting....Can you maybe start a new challenge, either streaking or setting a mileage goal for the month: you were talking about HM training too- that would give you a focus I'm sure

I think HM training will take precedence, but I have to settle on a plan. I’ve run two successive days now and can feel the motivation coming back x
Yey, well done Hidden ...10k to start the year...fantastic...snot and all! How funny when your face is that cold you lose control of your facial functions?! Teary eyes, snotty nose...it’s all going on. Signs of a proper runner right there...flippin youths bounding around though eh, never mind him, you were being just as fab x
Thanks Mummycav. He may have speed but I have grit and determination (well he may also have that I suppose.....)
