After being bribed over the holidays by my teenage son into playing twister in exchange for him finally coming to a parkrun, I thought I would have to drag him out of his bed this morning. But no, after reassuring him that I would run with him, he came sleepily willingly!
He set off at a sensible but decent pace and managed to maintain it well throughout, with a nice little sprint finish to boot! He's quite a fit lad but I wasn't sure if he would manage the whole course without walking at all! He showed true grit and ran great... Really really proud of him, and it was fab to have his company! All in a great first time of 33:21! And 1st in his age cat.
As a double surprise and bonus, mrs wiggy came to her first parkrun too! She's quite a fit lady but suffers with some joint pain sometimes and doesn't run distances generally but swims and walks for miles! At 38:33 and finishing with a last minute surge and a great big smile, we were on a bit of a high..... So we headed to the local for a full english treat!
Wonderful happy start to my parkrun year.... And I reckon that they'll be back for more! Runs, not breakfasts!!!
Happy running weekend everyone! π

What a wonderful morning Wiggy! Having your fam running with you must have been amazing! β€οΈ This time last week my daughter was running with (far ahead of!) me, but sheβs back in London now.
I bet your son and Mrs W are proud as anything. Well done them - and you of course! ππππ
Thanks cheeky, I don't think it'll be long before I'm chasing my son if he keeps it up, when he set off with 200m to go I really had to go some just to stay with him! π And I don't mind one little bit!
Not quite all of us as daughter works on Saturdays. She's not so less keen to run but loves what parkrun is about and would volunteer if not working, one for the future π
Hi Raz, I found that a general wear him down over a long period of time followed by allowing him bribe me into something and then offering a hearty breakfast worked wonders! π
A teenager at parkrun had previously suggested giving him a tech ban might prove effective too but thankfully I didn't have to resort to that!
Now that he's been once though, I'm sure he will come again, so I say, find whatever you can to get your daughter there, she'll probably love it after her first one π€
