I've just received an email from Park Run with advice on hill training. Thought I'd share: blog.parkrun.com/uk/2019/01...

Thanks for sharing! That will be very helpful and a good reminder on an easy way to incorporate hills into our training. I like that he stresses it doesn't have to be a steep hill. I'll need to start getting hills back into my training again when I get back to running next week (as long as it's not too icy, which has been my struggle of late)

Please be very careful in icy conditions.

Will do! I bought some road shoes onBoxing Day so I can use my treadmill on those icy days that are too treacherous even for spikes. I’ve learned my trail shoes are too grippy in the treadmill and my last pair of road shoes are waaay past their expiration date 😆. I dislike the treadmill, but I hate falling on ice even more 😠

Speaking from experience.......for hill repeats please remember to build slowly. I run hills on every local route....there is no choice. However when I first attempted hill repeats (Kenyon hills so to speak), I did too many too soon, my knees really did not like it and I was on the IC for a couple of weeks.

Enjoy!

I'll bear that in mind. I have run up the same hill twice, but not recently. There have been hilly bits in my last few runs, but usually I aim to run on the flat. My local running group have a route which includes a hill called 'the beast' and I have conquered that! Do I like it? No! Do I like the feeling of having done it? Yes, feeling of achievement and improved fitness. So I'm happy to include a few hills in my runs.
