Happy New Year VRBs. Hope you had a great evening celebrating or not, whatever took your fancy! π
So I kicked off 2019 in style running our 2 local parkruns back to back! Letβs just say Iβm happy it isnβt a regular thing! π My legs are like limp pieces of rope, muscle-free at the moment! π π
It wasnβt a great preparation day yesterday - monster amounts of food consumed, a late dinner, some G&Ts, awful hydration and about 3 hours sleep. But, being the stubborn soul that I am, I flipping well made sure I ran those babies, hills included! My feeling of accomplishment is through the roof and Iβm so proud that I did them both. πββοΈππͺ
I very nearly didnβt make the second one at Eastville Park. My daughter had driven me in so I could leap out of the car while she parked, as we were warned of the potential numbers participating. But the battery was flat in the Ashton Court carpark! π«π«π« Hubby was duly called to come to the rescue with jump leads, but I could see the minutes ticking by and my hopes of the double were waning. Oh well. π
But my daughter spotted 2 lovely ladies in running gear and asked if they could take me! They did - so a massive thank you to Lindsey and Vikky of Weston-super-Mare! Saviours, both of you! πππ
Too many runners for finish tokens today, so us snails had raffle tickets and we were manually recorded. The volunteers did an epic job with over 1,000 runners at Eastville! π²
So an amazing start to my year. Iβm headed for the couch now! π
Happy running everyone. β€οΈ

Thanks Al, yes it took ages to reach the start line and get running. The volunteers did a sterling job though and it was all very good humoured. ππββοΈππ
There seems to have been record numbers at all the parkrun's today, perhaps a lot to do with the weather and people making new year resolution's to run more parkruns.
Iβve been waiting with baited breath for todayβs post. Massive congratulations, thatβs a fantastic achievement. Thank goodness for your friendly saviours. If not, you might have had to run between the two parkruns π€£ππ€£π Hope the legs recover quickly and happy running in 2019 πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Thanks TC. Even though Iβm fatigued itβs in a good way. Iβd have felt worse after all yesterdayβs excesses if I hadnβt gone out this morning. Running - got to love it! β€οΈ
An amazing achievement you have come so far over the last 12 months. Well done you - a great start to the new year.
I am gradually building my strength and distance back up after my injury in oct/Nov. Hoping to be back running 5k regularly by the end of this month. Really missed my park runs.
Thanks SSF, the ladies couldnβt have been more helpful and willing. π It was crowded and the delay at the start was quite lengthy but no-one minded. It was a fabulous atmosphere. πββοΈππβ€οΈ
Happy New Year and hereβs to lots more lovely runs! ππ
Oh yes Sask, they definitely are friendly. It could have gone so wrong with so many runners, but all the volunteers did their thing uncomplainingly and it went really smoothly. πββοΈππβ€οΈ
Brilliant! Amazing! After little sleep and lots of food! Crumpets! Fantastic start to the new year! Well done you! πΎπ₯π ππ»πππβοΈπββοΈπ€ΈββοΈπββοΈπ€ΈββοΈπββοΈπ€ΈββοΈ π ππππππ
Wow cheekychipmunks, you certainly did do parkrun today. What a magnificent achievement. And to keep going when the car let you down too. The helpfulness of other runners giving you a lift to the next one just proves what parkrun is all about. A community getting together. I canβt imagine 1000 runners at parkrun.
You definitely deserve to head back to the couch π.......πββοΈ........π........πββοΈ.......π
I know Dexy, I was so thankful. They even offered to go out of their way and drive me home too - which wasnβt necessary as my husband got the car going. Iβm so impressed by the wonderful running community. β€οΈπββοΈππ
Wow, well done Cheeky! (And well done to the lovely ladies who got you to number 2.) 1000 runners is an incredible number! I wonder if someone got sent off to acquire emergency raffle ticket tokens in the middle of the run, or if theyβd got them just in case! πβ€οΈ
Haha, I expect they got them in especially as Eastville was the only local 10.30 parkrun today, and at least 2 were held at 9, which attracted quite a few doing the double. ππββοΈππ
Think my speedy OH got a shock at the Chester Parkrun today. It was the one running later for other double runners, but he got back and said heβd be happy to never run it again! Apparently narrow tracks and ridiculously muddy! π³
Iβd originally eyed that up as our local Parkrun, before he convinced me we should go to Birkenhead, where his work friends ran. Makes me now wonder if Iβd have enjoyed Parkrun at all if weβd started at Chester! Funnily, he did the Delamere Forest one first, which I thought would be horrendously muddy, and he said the tracks there were fine! πππ
You had a lucky escape Iβd say! Narrow and muddy? No thanks! π
I was talking to several other runners this morning and comparing parkruns. Iβve only run the ones I did today, but we have quite a few others nearby. Some on soggy playing fields, some through the woods, some in the mud, some along the windy seafront ..... I think Iβm lucky in that my 2 local ones are paved, fairly wide and can be run in all weathers. But they have hills! Canβt have it all! π
A lady at Keswick this morning asked me if I'd run the Whinlatter Parkrun first, we were late away so it was possible. I was totally flattered to think I looked fit enough to even contemplate Whinlatter!
So I am in awe of anyone running 2 parkruns, back to back. What an amazing story of other's kindness too.π
Thanks TOF! I bet youβd have managed the double, youβre a speedster. I snailed around our 2 courses and Iβm certainly no athletic gazelle! Ashton Court is a toughie hill-wise with 2.5k up, 2.5k down. Mighty pleased it was first or I might have ground to a halt! π π
It was totally bonkers OF, but in a good way. Such a lovely friendly atmosphere and no frayed tempers, even with a longish wait to get through the start line. πββοΈπ
