Iโll try and keep this one brief โฆwell under my usual 500-600+ word essays...! ๐
Sunday evening came after a day of internet shopping and family time and I needed a run fix. As I was facing fairly ferocious weather outside - howling winds and lashing down with rain โ๏ธ I thought Iโd give the โEnd Of Day Run With Headspaceโ guided run a go on the Nike Run Club app, Iโve tried these before and found them very relaxing.
The two narrators discuss how to run mindfully and how to de-stress. This revolved around focussing on the body and the foot strike in particular as a way to drag your thoughts back to the present moment when you find yourself starting to think about concerns and stresses that are front of mind. This was interspersed with some very relaxing instrumental music.
Once the guided run had finished I felt well and truly wet through and very relaxed, I carried on with the music to complete the 5K.
Obviously being the 38 year old hyperactive child that I am I couldnโt just leave it there, so I smashed out a new 1KM PB for the final Kilometre ๐คกโก๏ธโก๏ธ
They've got 9 Headspace guided runs on there now, the longest is 50 minutes. The Headspace Spotify playlist that goes with it is also very chilled, I bet it would be really nice on your forest trails. Many thanks Ju-Ju!
Strangely enough I did this guided run on Friday night in the absolute torrential downpour. I feel good when the coaches give me permission to run slowly. I enjoyed the run and was surprised that my pace wasnโt too bad at all. I was nice and relaxed throughout, all though not quite meditative. Thanks for the recommendation ThunderSloth ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Ha! Yes, after having a go with other Headspace runs I thought this might be a good distraction from the terrible weather, it definitely seemed to work. I do still have to wrestle with myself a bit at the start to go slow, even though it was me that decided on a slow run?! But I have seen the benefit at the end of the runs now, so I am finding it much easier.
Thanks jayval70 Glad to hear you enjoyed yours too ๐
Nice, and typical TS behaviour doing a sprint finish! Youโre on fire! ๐๐๐๐ And I need to try Headspace too. I feel the FOMO arising again ......
Please donโt make your posts shorter - I need a fellow waffler (meant in all fondness obviously!) I canโt even write concise replies - see? ๐ ๐
I'll never stop waffling my twaddle and I hope you don't either Cheeky! ๐
Its really for me... I'll have a clear conscience next time I write one of my nonsensical monster posts! ๐๐น
I get a bit of FOMO about the MMR app actually, a lot of people use it on here and it does sound really good... but I feel like Nike have got me on the end of their marketing hook now!!!
Well Iโm going to be trying Strava at Christmas - I think most people use it with their Garmins (eeeek, only 22 days until I can open mine! ๐๐๐) I have loved MMR, mostly because itโs so screamingly simple to use! But Headspace sounds so much fun ...... hmmm ๐ค ๐ค
Right! I see, so you can connect the Garmin watch through other 3rd party apps... I didnโt realise that. Iโve just had a look and seen that you can add your Garmin account to the Nike run app too, I think thatโs just sold it to me... phiew... itโs all very confusing, Iโm going to start saving ๐ โฑ
Thanks! It was quite strange actually Crawlhome it was really windy and drizzle when I went out, but it was a bit like someone just chucked a bucket of water over me every 10 minutes with a huge downpour! ๐ฐ ๐ณ
Oh right, Iโve been thinking of having a go at the meditation app. Good to hear that youโve used it and liked it, Iโll have to see if they do a trial ๐
Yes I did take some convincing to have a go at the guided runs and leave the music. They are great, but I did find last night my pace wasnโt quite as consistent as it has been lately with a good beat and the regular pace prompts. ๐
Well done you; I think autumn has arrived now ThunderSloth. Iโm hoping to get a sunny run in tomorrow and looking good for the Santa run on Sunday. Want to sign up?
...It is looking quite good tomorrow morning actually isnโt it Dexy, definitely looks better than the evening... that just helped me make my mind up about tomorrowโs run thank you ๐โโ๏ธ
Ooooohhh.... social running does make me squirm!!! ๐๐๐ is this in Southsea Dexy? Maybe Iโll come and show my support with the kids... Ease myself in gently.... ๐ฌ ๐ ๐ป is it 9am like a parkrun?
The kids will love seeing all those Santas- itโs at castle field and along the prom. The first 1 mile race starts at 9.20, then thereโs a 10k at 10.00, our 5k is on 11.42. The Christmas Cracker Challenge is to do all 3. Thereโs also a doggy dash where some dogs are dressed up as elves or with antlers. ๐คถ๐ ๐ป๐ฆ
Thank you ๐ Yes, the Nike guided runs are a nice change to mix it up a bit Sandie, I like throwing one in on a Sunday run for a change. Do you have an apple or android phone?
Wowee well run TS! Smashing a PB at the end too, awesome! ๐ I have downloaded a Nike Headspace run too, hoping to use it on my long run on Sunday - good to hear it helped you cope with the weather! Happy running! ๐๐๐ช
Hi Mutley I hope you're ok... Good for you, let us know how you get on with the Headspace run ๐๐ Many thanks!
Hmmmm I love the idea of headspace runs like that. I seriously need to give this a try!!! Of course well done on your 5k, one more in the running bank!!
I don't know about you, but I am increasingly finding that going for a run is a brilliant way to destress. I can't run much in the week at the moment due to silly life getting in the way, but when I can squeeze in a run, it feels amazing!!

Thank you Neil, Yes I absolutely agree running itself is an incredible stress buster. The feeling that a run gives me I find very addictive and definitely find myself craving the next run fix!
I think where I'm still quite an immature runner and constantly need to remind myself that I don't need to be running my at my best pace or time on every run, these Headspace guided runs are helping me to enjoy the moment in the run... and forget about the race ...with myself?! ๐๐
Sounds great. I donโt know if I could do a speed dash at the end of a headspace run. They are so chilled.
