Downloaded a new running app today it’s Nike run. You can have guided runs. Today I just listened to the guy and turned my music off. It was good I cd hear my breathing but it was fine 3 in 3 out and it was reasonably steady. It was v motivational. They have headspace runs on there too which are supposed to be really good.

The guided runs rock... there’s ones to speed you up, slow you down, pick you up after a bad run, bring you back from injury and of course relaxation... Coach Bennett is amazing and was on a podcast the other day (see my posts “Coach Bennett Speaks”) if you’d like to hear it... he talks about running actually being a form of meditation, and lots of other stuff.

Have a look at the sister app too... Nike Training Club... all sorts of ways to torture yourself there! The running plans on NRC include some workouts from there too.

I will, although I couldn’t be less interested in exercising or working out 😬 I know they have to be done to prevent injury and for core strength but I need a bit of a push in that direction I’m afraid.

You and me both... I’m following a 5k plan at the moment and after a couple of weeks it started throwing in one workout a week, obviously specific ones to compliment the running... I can do once a week 😂

I’ve been doing some boxx sessions (yet another app) but I don’t enjoy them! Yoga on my other rest day is ok though.

Well I entered my details and the app has come up with a plan for me. One long run one work out and one benchmark which is a warm up, a sprint and a cool down. I’ve only just completed c25k so I’m wondering if I’m jumping the gun here. Maybe I should stick with consolidating 30 minute runs for I while. I’m not sure 🤔

Hehe... benchmarking hurts if you do it as it says... but it’s ok if you hold back a little!

If you’re looking at going to 10k I’d follow Ju-Ju’s plan, using NRC to coach you as you go... just dial up a run of the right duration and type... you can always unpause them at the end and keep running. The race plans prepare for a faster run, getting to that distance easily may not be their forte. The better athlete one on 5-6 days seems to deal 3 runs and 3 workouts every week.

I don’t think I’m looking to do 10k I’m only up to 4K at the moment so really I’m just aiming to do 5k comfortably. Who knows though never say never haha

I’d do “just a run” with coach Bennett (in short runs) then go to long runs and try a 35 if I was you.... then back to a 30, “just go with Mo” was good.

It is great, there’s loads of stuff on there. If only I knew what I was doing hahahaha

Could tie in with your plan eventually... their guided runs have been all time based, but they recently dropped in some distance ones... only 1 mile and 10 mile so far, but more will come. The plans are about race prep, so I’d favour yours strongly for a first 10k. Their 5k race plan pushes long to 10 miles, 10k goes to 12 miles.

Yep. I love the guided runs too, especially the headspace ones. I love the “I don’t wanna run” run. Good luck with them

I've used the Nike run app since graduating c25k. But I've just used it to time and map / record my runs. I used the first guided run instead of music last week on a short run and have to say I enjoyed it. Will be trying another tomorrow.

I’m desperate to do the 10 mile one... apparently coach Bennett has something cool to say at 7 miles in... I’d best get to work, I’m at 6k

A little way to go then, you'll get there one day 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

I did too. The music was a big boost to me at the beginning of my c25k but now I think I might enjoy these guided runs , I’m also going to try podcasts, my daughter uses these regularly whilst walking her dog and really enjoys them

Spoken word does suck your attention in, for me Music doesn’t do that, it’s just background. When your attention is elsewhere running is certainly easier.
