After reading UNM’s post about the benefits of slower running, I did just that this morning and ran 10.7k in 70 minutes. It felt easy and a joy to appreciate the beautiful surroundings.
To think that in my 30’s I was 3st overweight, a heavy smoker, drank every weekend and regularly ate fast food. At 49 my BMI is 21.5, I eat healthily , I’m a non-smoker, I drink alcohol occasionally and I’m training to be a nutritional therapist. If only my younger self had this wisdom! I’ve never felt better 😊
I know, i’m the same now but I waited til I was nearer 60 to take myself in hand. Cant do anything about what’s gone before but we’ve got it sorted at last 🙂👍💪🏃♀️
Slow running does build legs! It seems all things grown slowly are quality, be it cheese, wine, bread 😁. While you’re doing your slow runs you’re building leg strength. You can be working the rest of your body too with cRoss training on your none run days 💪. When you’re stronger you can run longer, and your shorter runs will pick up speed. If you want them to. There’s no imperative to do anything but keep running and enjoying it 👍😃🏃♀️
We have indeed got it sorted! I’m going to take up strength training again. I stopped that when I started running. It feels so good to be fit and healthy doesn’t it? 😊
I am the same as you, slow running has made me go long distances and it does pick your speeds up for 5ks etc. Love life and it’s goid to be healthy. Well done.
I’m all for slow running. My first ever 10k last week felt surprisingly easy. It was slow at 1hr 26m but I enjoyed every moment and my splits were all pretty consistent.
As always, I take a lot of inspiration from your posts Faith. Just completed my last post-C5K consolidation run yesterday. Slow running is definitely something I need to focus on, I had a go after reading UNMs post, which felt good. Achieving an even pace is another. I have a strong feeling the two go hard in hand.
