After a long day at the office I managed to force myself into the gym on the way home for my short “fast” run of the week.The gremlins were out in force - it’s cold, it’s dark, it’s meant to be date night, what about cooking tea? I fought those off with some stern words to myself: “you’re in a bl**dy gym, date night is a trip to the pub which can start at 8, text your boyfriend and get him to cook”.

Okay in the gym, boyfriend making dinner and buying some wine (!), head to treadmill - forgotten headphones! Damn. No worries, looks like I’ll just listen to the music in the gym and my breathing. Nothing is stopping me from this run.

Start treadmill, alternating between 9.0km/h and 8.0km/h for when I’m tired. Gremlins persuade me to move my goal down to 2.5k. Get to 2.5k, hit gremlin with a virtual sword, painfully carry on to just over 3k!

It wasn’t pretty; but pleasantly surprised with my pace (down about a minute off my long, slow run) and my determination.

Absolute madness that 21 minutes is a quick run now, in May that was a dream to run for 20 mins!!

Well done Becky for fighting off all the negatives, we can all persuade ourselves there are many reasons we cannot run, what we should say is hey its only 20 or 30 minutes, so great work keep it up, by the way which sports watch and app are you using
