Magic 10 - W1R2 - 2.5K 🤡

Ooooooooohhhhhhhh! now that was a lot of FUN!!! 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

I went out on a rare evening run last night, I’d downloaded a 30-20-10 Jog-Run-Sprint app and set it up. I went on my merry way with Spotify, Nike Run Club and JogRunSprint apps at the ready. I had one thought as I was leaving the house, which app would conk out on me first and completely ruin my run..

It was 13 degrees outside, so shorts and T-shirt were the clobber of choice AGAIN in November…?! 😱

I’d planned a route down a relatively straight 1.25K leafy path, only interrupted once by a road. There and back was my 2.5k… I didn’t want to have to do too much thinking on this one so I had made it as simple as possible for myself 🤣

I started with a warmup walk and a five minute jog… then bang! 💥 into the sets, Jog - Run - Sprint - Jog - Run - Sprint… Wohoo! I enjoyed this SO much! It was really exhilarating, the short snappy bursts and the 10 second sprints felt absolutely amazing! The sprints finished in a nice amount of time to allow me to recover quickly on the following jog.

The 2.5K was over in around 15 mins and I wanted more!!! 😈😈😈 But I decided not to push it any further today, plenty of opportunities to have some more fun with this again... it had felt like a real treat AND all the apps had worked perfectly 👌

I felt surprisingly energised when I got back home and I was on a bit of a high. I finished it off with a runners warm down routine and a Nike ‘5 Minute Plank Finisher’ to top it off that consisted of:

• Plank alternating leg lifts

• High Planks

• Side Plank Knee Drives

• Plank Saws

• Plank Wraps

Phew! Holy Plank! Lets just say I was sufficiently damp by the end of that - But what an amazing buzz it all was.

Last run of the week tomorrow, 5K.

Hope everyone is having some good runs 😃⚡

Fantastic ThunderSloth!! That sounds brilliant! Not so sure about all those planks for me, but you make it sound fun!! 😁

I do feel different about that planking! But I can do one set! 🤣🤣 Better than zero though eh? 😉!

Well done you and thanks for sharing the fun! 🤩 ❤️

in reply to Fabulous450

Thank you Fabulous! The planking was tough and I didn’t get through all the set times, BUT it didn’t feel quite as torturous as the first time I did it.. so that’s some progress right there! And as you correctly say - better than zero 😉🧡⚡️

Wow! sounds like you're going great guns TS! Sounds like you are really enjoying your running - brilliant! Planning my first consolidation run for tomorrow, going to include a hill, so we'll see how I get on! Enjoy your next 5k. :-D

in reply to New_Runner_KD

I loved that one KD very enjoyable indeed 😁 ...could you tell?! Aah! Some hill training, good for you - straight in there with the tough stuff after graduation, I like your style. Keep us posted on your consolidation runs x👍💛

Holy plank to you too! Fab run 👏 but how many planks can someone fit in?!? I have plank envy 😂

in reply to Dragonflies

There was one other plank actually Dragonflies... the 'ThunderSloth positioned horizontally on the floor' plank... I ended most of the other planks early with that one! xxx

Soundslike a great outing 👍👍👍👍

But shorts? In November? 😱🌡❄❄❄

in reply to Jogunlikely

I had a lot of fun there jog... are you off the injury couch now? Ooh I just checked looks like you are! I’ll have to read that in a sec.. glad to hear it 👍 I know 13 degrees what’s going on? We’re all going to suddenly get hit with snow and ice soon aren’t we!!!

😨😨😨❄️❄️❄️

Jogunlikely profile image
Jogunlikely in reply to

Hate to pull you up here TS but 13 degrees is cold ❄! I won't get my legs out for anything under 22 degrees. 😘☀️

Thankfully I live on the south coast where snow is rare and fleeting. Having said that it would be a perfect excuse to add a tot of something to a post run hot chocolate 🤔😋

in reply to Jogunlikely

My other half is a bit of a central heating control freak, we have it set to only come on when it goes below 16 degrees in the house...❄️ Plus, I am one of those people that wears shorts right up until the point when random people start commenting in the street “ooh... bit cold for shorts” I stop wearing them when it becomes socially unacceptable 😋

I love the phrase “clobber of choice”! 😂 Clobber is such a great word. So weirdly mild for November, eh?

Brilliant run! I like the sound of that jog, run, sprint malarkey, might try it myself! Keep up the great work, Thunder. 👏👏👏

in reply to Sadie-runs

😁 I think I get ‘clobber’ from my dad, he says it when he’s purchased an item of clothing that he thinks is young and trendy (...it never is) “do you like the new clobber then?” ...Yes dad 😐

This was the app I used for the iPhone:

JogRunSprint itunes.apple.com/gb/app/jog...

They do similar things on Android too.

Have a go Sadie-runs that was a lot of fun!

Thank you 😊 🙏 🧡⚡️

Yes, it’s a very dad thing to say, along with “that’s a nice get-up”, when someone appears in a new outfit. 😂

Thanks for the link to the app! I will certainly experiment with that!

Happy running. 😁😘

Holy %#^ that then planks? Crazy. Way to go!

in reply to UnfitNoMore

Thanks UNM, I can see why you like (and liked) the sprinting it feels so good!

Hey, how did Mt. Snowdon go? I didn’t see a post... was it one of those “what happens in snowdonia stays in snowdonia” scenarios? 😁

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply to

I wish... I got there on the Monday... few beers with the in-laws... and then spent the next morning logging to stock up the wood pile for winter... knackered. Managed a mile before lunch and then chopping and sawing all afternoon... I slept well, but in 4 days I ran just that mile! I’ll be back!

in reply to UnfitNoMore

Sounds like you had a great time anyway UNM, with a good upper body workout to boot ...Snowdon isn’t going anywhere 👍

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply to

That’s true... it’s been there a while... and it does host an up and down fell race, but I think it has entry requirements.

I hate planks.

And plonkers.

😸

in reply to Katnap

I know what you mean but I think I hate sit-ups more than planks, sit-ups just feel uncomfortable on my tailbone... for a kat they must be excruciating 🙀😾

Katnap profile image
KatnapGraduate10 in reply to

As long as I can do it lying down...

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply to

I started this with the ability to do precisely 0 sit-ups.

I’ve maintained that ability!

Hi ThunderSloth, great run for you, interesting regarding those planks, I do several planks a week, mainly with YouTube videos, one of them is called "The three minute perfect plank workout" with Tom Holland as coach, there are another two as well to vary it around for me.

in reply to AlMorr

I just had a look at that YouTube video AlMorr, my gosh... those two women doing the planks are incredible aren’t they! They make it look like they are doing it in zero gravity... absolutely effortless!

The video does looks brilliant, a very similar set of planks to the workout that I did. I think your video has a bit more eye candy in it though 😁

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to

Thanks for looking at that video ThunderSloth, I do that exercise usually on a Tuesday and Friday morning before breakfast, on a good day I can do the change between the bit on my left arm to being on my right arm by not going onto the yoga mat, I will admit that sometimes I do hit the floor.

I did tell you that I do planks with 3 YouTube videos, the other 2 are

"7 minutes plank challenge", length of video 9.36,

"5 minute workout that replaces high-intensity cardio" (brightside ) length of video 11.47

in reply to AlMorr

My gosh, I’d have absolutely no hope of nailing that arm change after the plank, I just don’t have the upper body strength at the moment but I shall work on it... that is very impressive AlMorr 💪

Oh great, I’ll have a look at the other two and bookmark them on YouTube. Thank you very much for that AM

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to

Just by chance when I looked at my e-mails this morning there was another person, Sue, she said that she hated planks but I also advised her to have a look at those 3 videos, she was training for a 10K.

Good grief TS! Are you ok? Are you totally bonkers? 😅😅😅 That all sounds fun - for someone else to do! Not so much for me, the perennial trotter who likes to maintain one pace throughout her whole run! 🐌

I’ll enjoy reading about your experiences though! And how you get on with your millions of planks. I do planks in yoga and they’re hideous - especially side plank. 😳😳😳 Spawn of the 😈 as far as I’m concerned!

You’re amazing. Keep it up, and keep us all entertained. I’ll be watching from the sidelines. 😀

in reply to cheekychipmunks

It really gets me going cheeky! I don’t know what’s happened I used to be such a nice quiet boy happily sat on the sofa, but running has unleashed... this!!! 😱

Anyway, you’ve got to get you beauty sleep... big day tomorrow 💪🔥⭐️🔟

Enjoy your run, we’ll all be there with ya 🙌

I'm knackered just reading about your exploits TS! Sounds much more exciting than my intervals😂😂

in reply to Oggy2401

Admittedly your interval post probably didn’t contain enough WoHoos! 🙌 Bangs💥 or Ooohhs! 😈 Oggy, but I’m sure you can up your sound effects ‘game’ for your next post. 😁👍

Awesome run & amazing planking efforts!👌

Ace feeling to be on a high, buzzing off your efforts 🙌

Go get that 5k tomorrow Thundersloth 💪🤩🙌

in reply to

Holey plank indeedy! I don’t know about that Dreams but I am slightly less wobbly now than when I first did it! 🤓

Thanks Dreams, it was lots of fun 🤗 When’s your next run? It’s the 5K for you too isn’t it, you going for it tomorrow too?

By the way - it’s officially Christmas now, Tesco have started selling turkey and stuffing sandwiches...

in reply to

Nice... let the festivities begin! 🎄😝Extra planking is definitely gonna be needed! 😬💪

Yeah 5k is happening today, going for a slow & steady, not sure if you’ve ever tried one of those... 😉⚡️

in reply to

WELL 🤨 actually you’ll be proud to hear I went for a lovely slow and steady 5K run this morning whilst you were still tucked up in bed dreaming your sweet Dreams 💤 went with a Smiths playlist... it was all very melancholic

in reply to

🤣🤣🤣

You’ve got me there! 😆🤙🙊😴

Awesome work Thundersloth! Loving The Smiths too... 🎶👌

Good work! 💪

I’m definitely proud of your slow & steady efforts 😉✌️

in reply to

Have a lovely run today and don’t suffocate your feet again 🤣

I too enjoyed the 30-20-10 after all those weeks of plodding. I'm a planker too though I've only done full length, knees-only and sideways - I'll have to investigate your list!

in reply to Now-runner_NeedsAttn

They’re fantastic, looking forward to some more of those 30-20-10’s next week 🤩

If you’re on iPhone you can get the app with the plank workouts here: Nike Training Club by Nike, Inc itunes.apple.com/gb/app/nik...

Or here for android devices:

play.google.com/store/apps/...

This has the 5 min plank workout that I did on it. They also do some run specific workout plans or you can just pick and chose individual workouts 👍 the runners cool down is also very good.

Well Done ThunderSloth, although I’ve done my 10k I haven’t tried this fartlec running. But you’ve inspired me Did you set up the times on a watch or use an app?

in reply to Dexy5

Thank you Dexy, yes you should have a go it was great fun, I used an iPhone app this is the link:

JogRunSprint by Loeberute.dk itunes.apple.com/gb/app/jog...

It was all programmed in and I just tweaked the settings to achieve the overall duration that I wanted.

Hey, well done TS. My intervals time was 22 minutes - you are so fast. Respect with the planks. I have only managed a single one for 40 seconds before I collapsed in a heap. Some way to go methinks 😂

in reply to Sandie1961

Thanks Sandie! Your 5K time was pretty sweet though, you’ve got your technique nailed now by the looks of it... I think you’re going to get along very nicely with these longer distances... ties in nicely with your “some way to go...” comment 😁

P.S. I haven’t touched a plank position since that little escapade...!
